As someone who has had petrol or deasil Motability cars for the last 40 years, I have varied on picking up my new car, from a full tank of petrol/diesel to having the fuel warning light come on as I left the four court, which is an minor inconvenience having to get a 5 minute fill up at the nearest petrol station.
But this will be my first EV and the last thing I want is to pick it up and then spend 7 hours charging it at home before I can drive it anywhere. I know I can spend the extra cash and go to a fast charger and get it charged to 80% in 18 minutes.
But what is a reasonable amount of charge to expect the dealer to have in the car when I pick it up. I know I should have sorted this out at the time of ordering, but it never struck me at the time, as I went from, I would never want an EV to ordering one in a matter of days.
What do you all think and how much was in your EV at pick up if you already have one.

My dealer has told me the BMW i4 will be fully charged when I collect the car. All part of the service.

November 27, 2023 at 8:15 pm #250185The best way to be sure is talk to the dealership. I’d be really unimpressed if it could just about get home. Normally I’d be surprised if it was fully charged but even 50% gets you a little running around before charging overnight at home, especially on a 200+ mile range.

November 27, 2023 at 8:18 pm #250186I’ve had all of mines usually fully charged. The first one in 2014 was at 80% because you could set it to that limit and general thinking was best to keep to that. The other 2 were over 90% but just say to them you need it charged.
November 27, 2023 at 8:38 pm #250187The eC4 was fully charged at collection point.
November 27, 2023 at 8:49 pm #250188I picked a PHEV up last month with an empty battery but with £20 worth of free petrol, only 5 miles to home and hardly put in any petrol since. The dealer had charge points so could have been charged but as a PHEV not a deal breaker

Even more reason to avoid them lol.

No mats as expected and found the drivers floor area very slippery under foot on the pick up drive home
Very dangerous feeling tbh
November 27, 2023 at 10:40 pm #250199I remember reading somewhere that part of the PDI is to charge to 80%. Can’t remember where or if it was for a specific car but im sure i saw something to that effect.
Saying that my last EV was delivered on a flat bed with about 30% battery! So guess it depends on the dealer.
November 28, 2023 at 7:05 am #250205When I picked up the ID3 there was little charge, like 30%. I asked why it wasn’t fully charged and the reply was they couldn’t afford it. Yeah right, shite service from VW Carlisle.

November 28, 2023 at 10:56 am #250237We picked our e2008 up in march and that was at 100%, the dealer told us it would be and it was, no problem. Just tell them and ring the night/morning before you pickup to check its been charged.
enjoy the EV, we love ours.
November 28, 2023 at 11:23 am #250242The dealers said mine would be fully charged…and…it was. Kia Soul.
Not a deal breaker at the time as the local chargepoints were all free back in 2021, so my first 4000-odd miles of charging were free.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
November 28, 2023 at 11:36 am #250248Given how everyone on here is always going on about how cheap it is to charge an electric car, it’s both penny pinching and very poor service not to supply a new EV at least 80% charged, especially to Motability customers who may, by definition, have more difficulty charging a car on the public network than non-disabled customers.
I’ve only driven one EV and the BMW dealer ensured that it was fully charged for when I picked it up, which was just as well as the stated range dropped like a stone once I started driving it ?

Given that a dealership with a service centre will churn through hundreds of pounds of electricity, I can’t see how a few quid on charging a new car will do that much damage. I agree, very poor service.

Even allowing for commercial rates rather than domestic that’s still not going to break any banks anytime soon. As you say 80% isn’t that difficult and would be seen as good customer service, unless you know the customer has traveled a long distance to get to you, in which case I’d expect 100% to give them the best chance of getting home without encountering the public charging infrastructure too soon.
It’s the same with a test drive, I’d be mightily unimpressed if the charge was less than 50% and I had the car for an hour, if it’s a 24 hour or more offer, then it must start off fully charged.

November 28, 2023 at 5:55 pm #250289The order paperwork for my Enyaq included a £16.95 fee to come fully charged.
Who pays that I don’t know but it certainly isn’t me.

? oh my.
Thought I should counter my earlier demerit for BMW with the opposite for Audi in Huddersfield who filled the battery on another friend’s Q4 ?
"Come on BYD Seal!"November 30, 2023 at 12:10 am #250387I went to my dealer Hyundai Parks of East Kilbride, yesterday to try out a new steering wheel lock in the Ioniq 6, unfortunately the rep I ordered the car from was off, but I asked another rep what sort of power charge would the car come with.
He looked it up and said that I was being charged £50 which was on my invoice, he also said that the £50 would get about 80% – 100% charge it just depends on the day how long they charge it for. He also claims that it is the law that every dealer must charge. When I pointed out that was clearly not the case as others were not being charged, I got a dumb look back. It begs the question do dealer have to be able to lie at the interview to land the job, or do they get sent on a course on how to lie after they get the job.
On my return I checked the email and on the second page, in fact the only thing on the second page is a cost of £50 for fuel, but not on the total of what I still have to pay. I did explain that I was not happy as this was never discussed when ordering the car and I was on several Motability forums and it would not look appealing to other Motability customers. He responded that he could not comment as I was not his customer.
