In September I extended the lease on my VW Sharan as I wait for my VW Tiguan Allspace auto to be built (ha-ha-ha). Tuesday took my car in for pre-arranged MOT to local main dealer and told them the car had just developed a central locking failure. The driver’s door wouldn’t open. If left after locking it I had to go around the passenger door and lean over to open the driver’s door from there. They gave me a courtesy car I had booked for the day and when I took it back later that evening I was told the central locking problem was all fixed and ready to go. Happy to get my Sharan back I drove it home and parked it up for the next 2 days. The next time I pressed the remote on the key fob to unlock the doors it made a click noise like it was already open. Thinking I hadn’t locked it properly during those 2 days I locked it again and noticed the little red LED light stayed on instead of blinking. Now I discovered that I had the opposite problem in that the driver’s door wouldn’t lock at all. Phoned the dealer to let them know they had made the problem worse and asked them why they gave me the vehicle back when it won’t lock. A simple check would have spotted the problem straight away. They had no answer and told me I would have to book it in again and the earliest they could look at it was in 3 weeks time. Phoned motability customer service and I have to say they were brilliant at sorting me out a hire car. Within a few hours Europcar dropped off the hire car at the main dealers and I drove in and swapped the vehicles over. Not too impressed with the seriously stained seats and battered 4 year old Citroen Grand Picasso that Europcar left for me to collect but it was surprisingly comfy to drive. I have never had a problem with any of my motability cars before but when I needed them motabilty pulled out all the stops to keep me mobile and on the road. I only wish my local VW dealer was as good because I am certain they must have known the car wouldn’t lock when they gave it back to me just before they closed at the end of day.
