JamesJust reading the email from Motability and the below line got me thinking which manufactures could potentially be coming
We’re also speaking to some new manufacturers about trying to get their vehicles on the Scheme at some point in 2023.

MaccaCould this possibly be Motability and Subaru putting the divorce on hold. I would love to see the Forester return to the scheme …

BrydoTake your pick from a few Chinese manufacturers?
January 13, 2023 at 8:48 pm #206042BYD Atto 3 has been designed for Europe and will likely come to the UK this year and will be a rival to the ID3 and MG4. I can see this joining the scheme sooner or later. Not sure about BYD’s Han (saloon) or Tang (7 seater suv) coming here but I believe there in continental Europe.
Whether Geely brings any of its other brands other than Volvo to the UK is unlikely
Nio ES8, Xpeng P7 and possibly WEY Coffee 02 are likely to come here as well as other China.com brands. What actually joins the scheme is another matter.
January 14, 2023 at 9:54 am #206077I’ve read somewhere that BYD are being sold in Scotland by Arnold Clark.

I know on of the national dealerships were going to sell them but, couldn’t remember which.

Wouldn’t be a new manufacturer considering they’re already available on the scheme.
My guess would be that this is mainly about chinese manufacturers like Ora (“funky cat”) and the sorts. Potentially Tesla now that they’ve become desperate to hit sales targets to stabilise their stock value (the lower models would fit price wise now).
I’m pretty sure the Smart #1 is another option.

Love to see LR return and more Chinese EV brands.
I really can’t see JLR coming on seeing how they got a bit burnt last time.
Although as a LandRover nut I would love to see JLR on scheme ?
January 14, 2023 at 1:15 pm #206095I seriously doubt the likes of JLR / Tesla will join the scheme. I don’t think it would help their brand image especially if the Daily Racist crew got wind of it. Subaru are on the verge of pulling out of the UK so I can’t see them joining either.
What we need are the existing manufacturers to expand and give us the selection we had before everything went pear shaped.
January 14, 2023 at 2:57 pm #206108I don’t think it would help their brand image
For JLR, for sure.
Tesla really doesn’t have “a brand”. They’re expensive, but not premium, so in that regard i don’t think they’re misplaced on the scheme. And Musk has more urgent issues than the brand image too – shifting cars is paramount for now. For all intents and purposes, MB is just another fleet operator.
I still wouldn’t have one if they appeared on the scheme, i don’t even think that they’d be a great addition (small boot etc, since we’re definitely not getting the Model X/SUV) – but i do think it’s possible, and depending on pricing, i’m pretty sure plenty of people would snatch one.

BrydoBandit I wouldn’t take a Land Rover my daughter has one and it’s been the garage 10 times in two years, nightmare.
She can’t wait to get rid.
January 14, 2023 at 4:45 pm #206119Brydo,
Conversely, having had my Discovery for 20 months now, it hasn’t put a foot wrong. Neither have my brother’s Range Rover, or the 7 Defenders our dispersed farms managers use.
Then conversely again, the Isuzu DMax’s that we have seem to have season tickets for the dealer’s repair department! One has now been there for 8 months now awaiting engine parts and another not far short of that. Most of them see regular trips to the dealership. The older Ford Rangers we had were much more reliable albeit somewhat more basic.
January 14, 2023 at 5:20 pm #206121@Brydo, you can find such ownership experiences for any car manufacturer that exists. I’ve had half a dozen LR products none of which presented any reliability issues. Friday afternoon cars still exist, they never died out with BL ?
January 14, 2023 at 5:39 pm #206123I’d love a new “proper” RR Autobiography, had an olde HSE model in the late 80’s.
Anyway back to reality – I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Renault Austrel, given the Kadjar must have been a popular car when it was on the scheme!
