A friend receives a company vehicle and has a choice of one manufacturer and this is normal in many cases. Despite the loss of 3 VW cars the choice on motability is still huge. That is what politicians and the scheme will say. You may or may not agree.
In my company car days I had experience of 3 or 4 different leasing companies. The choice was far better than Motability. They all produced suggested lists of cars at varying prices and we had a monthly car allowance and a free choice of whether to use the whole allowance, get a cheaper car and have the balance as taxable extra salary or have a more expensive car and pay the extra. However, within reason, if a car wasn’t on the list you could ask for a quote, something that you can’t do with Motability.
