Group together to get better deal

    Lets Get Organised

      I have had an idea……….

Why don’t we group together to get a better deal?

It could work something like this. Generally, we know what car we want what spec and so on.

We also have quite a wide window in which to order the car. for example, you can order a car when there are three months or less left to go on your previous lease (providing you have the correct award and so on)

So say 10 people or more are all within three months of each other and want to order a car then we could group together and I would have thought we could get a better deal on AP or optional extras but there would be more buying power that’s for sure.

it would involve some thinking to how this would work in practice as there may be many pitfalls due to time wasters etc but that could be mitigated out by the correct process and rules.

Let’s get organised we have the power of the internet to communicate with each other, we share the fact that we are disabled so we have a common goal to get a better deal for each other instead of working individually we could work together think pulling a tight rope against the big car manufacturers each time one of us gets on the end of it we have more buying power.

Sure this would not work for everybody and that’s fine but if you are like me and know what you want and are happy to wait until the car arrives because let’s face it it’s going to get here when it gets here (if it’s a new build) and of course, it would require everyone to be adult about it and not worry that someone has got their car before you because you are all still going to get a three-year lease so in the great scheme of things does it really matter that your new car is this month or next month providing you have a useful working car

so let’s hear some ideas over to you

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

I do believe buying power is the modus operandi of Motability Operations.

buying cars individually we have less bargaining power if we group together we will get a better deal

for instance, my car will be up next year I could keep it for another two years so that gives me a big window

if connected with a number of other Motability drives that also want the same Make and model we could then do a collective deal circulate the paperwork to all at the same time so everyone knows what is on offer then all you have to do is phone visit showroom to sort the paperwork out once all ten people or more are complete the dealership can place an order for ten or more cars now what salesman in this climate is not going to do a deal?

              or am I missing something

it would not take too much organising

you may be right but there is nothing to stop us getting together to do a better deal for us.

What you are missing is that people want to make individual choices of different makes and models of cars in entirely different locations throughout the UK at entirely different times subject to when existing leases expire.

we are not a lobby group, we are a group of individuals which fall within the 200,ooo vehicles purchased through the scheme per year, the few deals done outside the set AP (which are not allowed and by Motability) are on an individual basis between the dealership and us the individual, grouping together will not result in better deals just more confusion, if our users (WMC)  are lucky enough to get a discount and the dealership permits them to pass that info on then they are welcome to post that info on the Deals thread. As a Forum we feel this is the best middle ground but draw the line at setting up a Group or sharing personal Email etc.  the safety of our users are paramount.

Ten, Twenty, Thirty or more turning up at dealer at the same time to order a new car would be a nightmare.

i dont think 10 or 20 people will want the same car, i think even the tiggy club or the volvoers get to double figures.

Each Motability contract is separate. You have to visit the dealer to order the car. A single dealership would mean for some, a round trip if 200 miles plus, which negates any perceived discount.

Also Motability might take a dim view of one dealership effectively “stealing” from other distributors

I get where you are coming from as I’ve been involved in group buys before and you get an ‘x’ amount off.

with there being so much choice it would be hard and would have to be done on a manufacture deal such as Volvo, VW etc as opposed to a specific model.

ie. VW (wherever the location may be) get 5 people and get £100 off your orders.

It sounds good but you have to factor in distance, time, mobile needs etc so IMO will be difficult to do.

                            good idea though.

Therefore the same specification car should be the same price for all but it’s not why?

The AP is Set by Motability and is the Same for everyone.  its the individual dealer that decides for whatever reason to make offers or incentives and that comes out of their cut. Motability receive 100% of the Set AP from the Quarter it is Ordered

                                Lets Get Organised

So all I am saying is instead of passively waiting for a dealership to make an offer out of their cut. Instead, we organise ourselves to actively negotiate a better deal.

Do we have the freedom of choice as to where to spend our AP

We should be able to organise ourselves to get a bulk buy deal

A simple portal with dropdown box use the same as the Motability car search (so all the hard work has already been done)

pick which car you want and then enter your geographical location in and see how many others in that area are interested in the same car as you and what deadline

Then we do the hard work to come back with a deal

Comercial car purchaser can use a site like Carwow is it too much to ask that we disabled people have something like that to get a better deal?

                                  Not that difficult these days

I think all the reasons why not have been covered, in particular that it would breach Motability rules.

Are car dealerships allowed to open?
Tighter restrictions came into force on January 5th across the UK. These only permit ‘essential’ businesses to stay open to the public. The government has classed car dealerships as ‘non-essential’ and, as a result, they must close their doors – just as they did in March 2020.

You will still be able to buy a new car, although you will have to purchase it remotely from a dealer offering click-and-collect, or home-delivery services.

Dealerships are currently offering these services in England and Wales, but new rules coming into force in Scotland on 16th of January will prevent all non-essential shops from offering click-and-collect services. It isn’t yet clear whether this will affect car dealerships.

Dealerships in Northern Ireland had to close to the public on December 26th 2020. They aren’t expected to open until mid-February 2021, and they’re unable to offer click-and-collect services in the meantime.

Showrooms across the rest of the UK will be closed but service departments will still be able to offer MoT tests, car servicing and repairs – these are classed as essential services and are allowed to continue under new lockdown conditions. There are no current plans to introduce an MoT test extension for drivers whose cars require a test during this new lockdown period.

                                                  so I guess not

then add all of the advance paymanets = I have no idea

Who is going to control the data, such as Fred Bloggs of 12 Big Street Reading, who wants to see who else is ordering a Volvo in March 2021 as he is thinking of getting one.

Are the names & contact details of other customers made available to him so he can contact them directly? Or how does he contact other potential customers?

Who is going to control the database of customers – and think how much that data could be worth to a dealer in a particular area?  For example, Mr Volvo Dealer of Slough signs up under an assumed name just to see who in Reading is thinking of acquiring a Volvo. Mr Dealer the bombards Mr Bloggs and others with Volvo ads from his Slough dealership rather than the Volvo dealership in Reading.
