PaulHi first ev on order and have had home survey email. My question is what have you choosen? The iPod untethered or the plus tethered. I’m thinking the tethered plus but I like the idea of untethered on the wall…

Choose which you believe will suit you needs best!
I would go with untethered because it looks tidier but can be a pain plugging both ends in during winter conditions. The tethered looks more bulky but, is a breeze to use.
October 8, 2023 at 7:37 pm #237145I went for un tethered as its neater plus if you damage the cable its a pain to replace on a tethered unit. No hardship plugging both ends in.
If your on Octopus you will use the app to control it anyway.

PaulGenuinely in to minds… does look a bit untidy the tethered got to say
October 8, 2023 at 10:12 pm #237169The Ohme pro shown in the above picture, does not come with a fancy cover as standard!

I know. I plan on making something though…
October 8, 2023 at 11:00 pm #237176October 8, 2023 at 11:34 pm #237181Personally I’d have an untethered one, much more discrete when not in use.
October 9, 2023 at 12:50 am #237182I went for the untethered. It is a newer one from Ohme and only recently released.
someone on the street has a tethered one and it looks real messy with the cable all wrapped around
also untethered your future proofing as on motability they will only pay for one charger and if you change cars or the chargers change in the future your stuck with this type of cable.

Not exactly, the cable can be replaced relatively easy in a tethered charger, Its just not as DIY as a untethered charger would be,

Do bare in mind the ohme is one of only few manufacturers who essentially factory tethered chargers with 5 or 8m cables. Removing the cover will void any warranty and its always advisable to consult a qualified sparky to carry out the work.
Disclaimer over – there are very few know how videos but it isn’t rocket science and whats that electric car site speak something if I rember ?

BlackjUntethered because if you change car you are not limited to tethered. Far East cars have different connections.

callmejohnThanks all for the information, that has made my mind up to go for the untethered and keep the 8m cable in the house of it does not fit in the space under the bonnet.
October 9, 2023 at 4:53 pm #237278I think the E-pod comes with 7.5m type 2 cable.
October 9, 2023 at 5:27 pm #237283If you go for the un tethered version then you get to choose either a 5m or 8m cable. I went for the 5m one and it really is a good quality cable, far better than the one i got from KIA and it comes in a really nice bag to hold it.

RobTethered all day and night long. Yes non tethered looks better, but is much more of a pain to use in winter. With tethered you come home, plug in the wall cable and go into your nice warm home. Depending on your mobility, takes about 1 min. Untethered- you have to get out the car, open the boot. Connect one end then the other end more work more time. Now when you are leaving the home. It’s been raining or snowing. Tethered, you unplug, wrap around the wall unit and go. Untethered you have to unlock both ends, wrap up a freezing cold or wet cable, open the boot and place back in the car. Your hands are frozen or wet. The cable is frozen or wet. It is not a nice experience for the following 3 years – especially in winter. Tethered is much more practical on a day to day basis. But I am sure in the depths of winter you will still appreciate how tidy it looks if you go untethered.
October 9, 2023 at 7:17 pm #237292The other benifit of untethered chargers, is that manufacturers often allow for the charging cable to be either auto locked or user operated through an app.
Essentially turning it into a tethered charger over the winter months.
I’m not sure if the E-POD has this facility , without looking 🙂
October 9, 2023 at 9:11 pm #237320Just about to have my Easee charger swapped over to the Ohme Pod
To date ( no real world explanation from motorbility as to why this is happening) in fact they still advertise Easee as a option even though its not.
Seems PR and damage limitation is in full swing atm but time will tell it always does
Unlike the pro the Pod is untethered and does not come with a charging cable ( you can keep the Easee 5m cable I have been told
I hear their is an additional cost for those of you wanting/needing the tethered Ohme pro
Personally quiet happy that I get a neater Ohme Pod that is more compatable
Been informed that sub installer will be in touch in a few days, once swapped I will update and let you know if it was plain sailing
October 9, 2023 at 9:26 pm #237323@Burgerman333 the pod comes with cable unless Motablity are being a tight arse given you can retain your Easee cable. Say nothing other than you only have the cable that came with your car and you could do with a slightly longer one ?
October 9, 2023 at 10:27 pm #237329Seems no cable supplied with the pod according to motorbility
see link
Makes sense as those swapping over already have their Easee 5m cable which motorbility have told me I can keep

Ignore me mate, Ive been in malfunction mode for the couple of days!
Your right though customers either pay for a charge cable at time of install, use an old one or the one that came with their vehicle.
