I am in a bit of a situation. I ordered a new car from vw got told oct/Nov but now taking longer I understand that happens but my own car has broke. Just wondering if I could get a courtesy car while I wait or can I cancel the order and try get a car sooner.

Sorry to hear about this Hayley. It’s called Sods Law! I don’t think that Motability will help as you are technically not yet a customer, but it’s worth a phone call to ask. They are very helpful and the worst they can say is no. If the dealer knows that your car is definitely coming in within a few weeks there’s an outside chance that they might help you out, but I have never found VW dealers to be very good. Again, you can ask. My sense is that your best bet is to get your current car fixed ASAP as VW lead times can (and do) slip several times and you will need to get it fixed anyway in order to sell it. Good luck.
October 8, 2024 at 11:53 am #290495If motability did help which I think they won’t, but if they did they will just take your mobility component money and let you hire a car. So why not just use your mobility money and hire yourself a car in the meantime time.
You could cancel the order if you find a stock car that suits which you could get in between 3 days to two weeks.
What’s the plan with old car. Fix and sell, trade in or scrap? If the first two then you need it fixed anyway. Get it done asap so you have a car until your original order is ready.
October 8, 2024 at 12:16 pm #290496Forgot to mention I carnt hire a car out ain’t had my licence long enough to do that and the car will be getting scrapped I reckon as to get it fixed is more than what it’s worth carnt really rely on any money coming my way from that car. So I will try and speak to vw not gonna expect anything but worth a try I guess. And because new driver trying to switch car insurance is gonna cost a bit I imagine could be wrong though. New to the car world so I ain’t got a clue with best options so appreciate your feedback already thanks
October 8, 2024 at 12:46 pm #290499You won’t get a courtesy car before your own has arrived.
Best you contact the garage for info on when yours will arrive but even getting that 100% confirmed is unlikely. Otherwise start phoning around for something available for immediate delivery, and even then it’ll still take 4 or 5 days to get the paperwork done so don’t waste any time if you’re desperate for a car… you might not get the car of your dreams but it’ll keep you mobile 🤞
October 8, 2024 at 1:06 pm #290500What you do will depend on a number of factors we do not know. For example mainly what sort of car you need, do you need adaptions etc etc
If you simply need a car and your disability does not affect mobility (any size car will be fine). I would say do some research of in stock availability of cars on the scheme and in your advanced payment price bracket, double check the car is in stock and that the dealership are happy to supply on Motability and then if yes cancel the current order, wait for a couple of days (might be quicker) and then get the paperwork done for the in stock car.
I have had two Audi’s in the last 18 months (due to a write off) and in both cases they were stock cars which I picked up 7 days after doing the paperwork.
October 8, 2024 at 1:11 pm #290503I think that might be the best option to go for is to look around quick question how did you find stock already in . And let’s say vw do they have all the same stock or is it ring different branches up. Thanks
October 8, 2024 at 1:14 pm #290504I think VW have a stock locator, try here – https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/new/available-stock-locator.html
But you will have to do a bit of legwork (well phoning around, possibly visit nearest dealership or nearest few dealerships)
Good luck with it
October 8, 2024 at 1:15 pm #290505Its highly unlikely Motability will help, as technically you aren’t a customer yet.
What VW model have your ordered? Its worth remembering VW is a huge group and other brands in that group will have basically the same car, that may be available from stock within 5 days as Rhodgie has said. Equally, it might be worth you expanding your search outside the VW group to!
Look on Autotrader, for new cars available from stock in your area or further a field if you can get there. If there is something you like, ring them up and ask if they are willing to let you have it, as a Motability car.
October 8, 2024 at 2:46 pm #290515This happened to me in June – Car out of warranty by 2 weeks and the injector went sadly nothing mobility could do cause I wasn’t technically a customer yet. Brutal!
October 8, 2024 at 3:39 pm #290521I did order a golf automatic. And you are right not much they can do as I ain’t a official customer yet it was worth a try lol . So gonna start ringing round dealerships see if anyones got anything in stock. Thank you to everyone who has replied been a massive help. X
