Hello we have started looking for our renewal from our xc60 and ideally need a big car but are also looking at the vw transporter. When I click on the notability website this model (Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle 2.0TDI T32 S BMT SWB) is coming up as only £222 advanced payment?!? Is this right or a typo?

Ideally we would have liked the Skoda Kodiaq but are unable to afford the advanced payment for the engine size we would need (3 kids, 2 dogs and a wheelchair amongst everything else!), does anyone know if they may come down with the next update in a few weeks?

Can’t decide to go see about ordering the transporter at that price or wait it out?!

thabk you in advance for any help or advice x

It is the correct price. I was looking at the transporter but want Auto gearbox & the one at £222 is a manual.

The S model looks very “van like” too not nearly as nice as the SE. also it’s only 101BHP which isn’t a lot for a heavy vehicle.

Last quarter the 204Bhp SWB T32 SE DSG was on albeit at a high AP & was taken off due to the 200HP limit I assume. The new engines for 2019 will be 198HP so I am hopeful that the SWB DSG will return onto the scheme.

For now I think I am going to hold onto my XC60.

Thanks for your reply, my next question therefore is how do you hold on to your xc60 if you’re due for renewal? (This is our first notability car so new to all this lol!)

            Hi Oscarsmum,

You can ask motability for an extension of your current lease if you feel the vehicle you have is still suitable, and that there is not a vehicle currently on the scheme that is better suited to you, or one you can afford.

Not done this myself, but from reading what others posts, especially those that have the xc60, motability are pretty flexible on this, regardless of mileage and will let you extend for a further 2 years with the option to start a new lease on a new vehicle at anytime. Also if you extended for the full 2 years, your good condition bonus increases to £400.

Wow that’s great to know thank you. Next question (sorry lol!) if we decided to buy this car what roughly is the discount percentage wise that notability offer from normal retail if any!? And then where would that stand us for future notability vehicles also?

no discount on buying same as forcourt if not higher and cash sale not monthly,i believe you can purchase your car and still stick with motability.

VAT? Does Motability include VAT in the sale price? I read about exemption on certain products for disabled customers, might not be recalling correctly.

Good question Matt and a hard one to answer but It’s hard to tell if you pay the VAT on a car you’ve bought from Motability as when they sell the car to you they give you a take it or leave it lump sum price with no breakdown of the price.

Going by what they asked for not being ton’s short of the price you would pay for a similar second-hand car in same trim and condition privately I would say you do pay the VAT within the offered price but even having bought a Motability car I don’t really know for sure as your receipt for the car is your bank statement more or less, other than V5c, though that said I do have paperwork from Motability that I haven’t read each and every line as my mind was on other more important things in the time leading up to taking the DWP to an appeals court.

As I knew, but no way 100% certain, I would be returning to Motability and having another car with them I did not bother keeping the road fund tax relief on the car as in “disabled class” and changed it to “private“as the tax is only £30 a year anyway and at that time I would only get 50% relief i.e. £15.

These days a lot of things within government offices are linked and I would of thought that DVLA would inform HMRC that the car had become private and VAT was due so I would say the VAT is included in the sale unless they’re very slow and I get a bill tomorrow. (:>()

I remember going back a few decades guys at work would buy ex-company vans for personal use and I’m sure they had to pay the VAT or duty of the van’s because the company was exempted but not ever buying one myself I can’t even be sure that that’s 100% correct.

The other thing is that I can’t recall there being any restrictions on selling the car on.

So summing up I would say yes VAT included but not 100% sure so a very helpful post. LoL

That was very helpful, always interesting to read a first hand experience. I’m sure I read on here that somebody had VAT relief of a Motability sale, again I could be wrong. After reading some more general information it seems vehicles with ‘significant adaptations’ are classed as VAT relief eligible in the disabled class of products, things like hoist or wheelchair adapted vehicles appear to be eligible.

Maybe Motability take this into account when offering a sales figure on such vehicles?
