The choice is not great. Have you looked at the Volkswagen Taigo, good looking practical car, available in R-Line trim too.
January 3, 2024 at 10:16 am #253569I have but i was hoping for anything over 1 litre but im just going to leave the scheme for 2 years and come back when im 25 thank you
January 3, 2024 at 10:54 am #253573Some of the 1L turbo cars have lots of power. We have Octavia 1L Mild Hybrid, loads of power and acceleration, never been lacking in 10,000+ motorway miles, I’m always in the outside lane.
January 3, 2024 at 11:03 am #253576Hi joejoe i didn’t mean anything bad about 1.0 litre but if you see the 1.0 cars that motability offers to under 25s in my opinion looks ugly
January 3, 2024 at 11:29 am #253584Clio, Corsa, Fiesta, 2008, Astra, Golf, Juke and A1 are usually popular with under 25’s. Admittedly you can’t swing a cat in them and dependng on disability maybe of no use.
January 3, 2024 at 11:34 am #253588Its not that under 25’s are pushed out. They were never in it.
Even when I was 17 every car was limited until you reached 25. You just could not get insured for one.
If there is nothing suitable for you, then yes, give it a rest for a couple of years until you reach 25.
You should have some accumulated NCB, so getting insured privately will not be eye wateringly expensive.

I’m with @jojoe because my 1,5l Kuga is surprisingly perky.
I actively search for milk floats. trucks, buses and tax exempt older cars to show em who’s the daddy.
January 3, 2024 at 12:10 pm #253596I had to look recently for an under 25 and thought there were some nice cars on. She settled on a polo because of immediate delivery.
She was hell bent on a vw or seat because that’s what all the cool kids drive now lol
January 3, 2024 at 12:12 pm #253597The choice of cars for the under 25’s is pathetic. My son looks at the list regularly and laughs at it and is why he doesn’t bother with the scheme. He’s 24, has been driving since he was 16, never made a claim and has no points on his licence. It’s a joke really when you read some of the stories on here from people who are allowed to drive any car they want on the scheme. It’s like Motability actively set out to discourage them from the scheme which in my view is very short sighted as they are the scheme’s future.
January 3, 2024 at 12:36 pm #253605Elliot that is my exact point i don’t understand how im meant to go from driving a midsize suv to a polo it makes no sense. But if a 25 year old passed their driving test today they would qualify for any vehicle on the scheme with no experience ? its shambles

January 3, 2024 at 2:30 pm #253635I’ve just had a quick look and I think under 25’s have a great choice, even 2.0l engines cars like Mazda CX-30 Suzuki S-Cross, I wish I could have had a car like them before I was 25.
January 3, 2024 at 2:45 pm #253638I think the line should be incremental, based on previous years incident free driving. E.g. a 23 yr old that’s just become eligible for the scheme but has 3+ years ncb from previous history (as policy holder not named driver) should be able to have any car. Whereas a 26 yr old with no driving history or ncb should have to start at the bottom, as it were.
January 3, 2024 at 3:12 pm #253644Not much point in arguing what it should be.
If the vehicle insurance companies say NO under 25 year olds, its a show stopper.
If the OP is not happy with the vehicles on offer, then wait 3 months and see what comes on to the scheme then.
Motability wash their hands of the vehicles on offer for under 25 year olds and point their finger at Direct Line.

I can imagine my son swapping his Audi Q2 for one of those…….not.

My first cars were a Triumph Dolomite Sprint followed by an Opel Manta GTE. I can see why a lot of under 25’s turn their nose up at the scheme.

I was suggesting to the OP not your son.

January 3, 2024 at 5:27 pm #253678What about the new Hyundai Kona or Nissan Juke? The new Kona in particular is longer than your Qashqai.
And within the bhp limit, you’re really not going to be able to get that much thrill anyway!

Its how car insurance works, so frustrating BUT very far from a shambles!!!

For once Motability has a point. Insurers have pinned down stats showing U25s present extra risk because X% of accidents where the driver was distracted/going too fast/inexperienced were also U25.
In reality there has been people appeal the U25 rule because they’ve been driving years and have needs that require something not really available just because of age. It might be that finding a suitable car and argue a case that 5 years trouble free driving provides some assurance of responsibility and care in a car. ??♂️

January 4, 2024 at 12:12 am #253748My son who’s 24 has 7 years NCB so has no problem getting insurance despite his age. I would say a lot of people on here are a much bigger risk than him.
