Hi everyone while we wait for the many new cars that will arrive on the first or more likely not, I was thinking what has been the biggest surprise added to the scheme . Go back as long as you like and if you remember the AP then even better.

We’ve only been with Motability for around 10 years, so we joined after the glory days had ended, but having seen the lists when well over 4,000 cars were on the scheme there were a few choice cars such as the Range Rover Sport and Volvo XC90. The AP’s were something like £12k to £15k but, as a percentage of the vehicles list price, that would be a bargain compared to what people have to pay for run of the mill cars now. If a BMW X5 were to be on the scheme now at an AP of £15k I’d be very tempted, but I won’t be paying £5k plus for the sort of cars commanding those AP’s nowadays.

Agreed, I have owned a D5 XC90 Se Lux , a luxurious and large family SUV with a good ride, excellent performance for such a large vehicle , and with surprisingly good fuel consumption , leased a D5 XC70 se lux , & 2 x D5 XC 60 R design and had a D3 V60 SE via Motability, and I can thoroughly recommend them all, the best one for the Motability package being an XC 60?
December 27, 2022 at 8:19 pm #203600Without a shadow of a doubt the best car ever, a proper and true SUV, the award winning, Ss Rx. I’m sure nobody needs to fill in the gaps!

fwippers you seem to be getting more excited about the Rexton daily. Do you know something we don’t 🙂
The latest Rexton is a nice motor.

Not necessarily the best motors, but certainly a couple that surprised me were the addition of the Subaru Forester and the XV. The spec that we were wanting didn’t make it to the scheme, and so we never managed to land a Forester before Subaru were ultimately removed from the scheme.
For me, it was simply the fact its such a niche brand, with a specific approach to their engineering, that had me looking twice.
I still have an interest in the Forester but in spite of efforts to encourage some dialogue between Motability and Subaru, there are no indications we’ll see Subaru back in the short term.

The car has improved greatly, I have to say a bit too big for me. But a real SUV.
December 28, 2022 at 10:11 am #203620Has the Land Cruiser ever blessed the scheme?
December 28, 2022 at 8:42 pm #203657Volvo XC70 D5 Auto, not that many years ago with an AP under 2K a bargain compared to todays AP’s.

A great car for those of us who have to cart around a wheelchair but would still like some decent luggage space left! If I recall correctly, the Audi A6 was on the scheme then as well, and also the smaller A4. Even the latter would seem to be out of the question nowadays! Of course, it was less than 2 years ago that the BMW 320i Touring was on the scheme.
Whilst there may be one or two cars left that could tick the ‘needs’ box, there’s nothing left that also ticks the ‘wants’ box where I would be excited to order one ?
