Just placed the order! Went for the Diamond Black. couple of things I will have to get used to . The P,R,D etc is at the wheel and not to my left which will take me a little mind shifting (pun intended) to adjust to. Best car I test drove by miles ! The features in the car and how safe I felt in the car helped. I think getting used to any new car and its “ways” take a little time. But i’m happy this won’t confuse me too much. Dealer said he would accommodate as best he could if price dropped in 4th quarter depending on how much , but I just did not want to risk this car (electric car of the year) going up in price and I end up with an option I didn’t feel a safe in . Also the 750 ends soon and I would be getting this car if I did have that going towards it.

Odd that the dealer says that they will adjust the AP if it drops “depending on how much”. It makes no difference to them whatsoever whether the AP is £5 or £5,000 as 100% of the AP goes to Motability Operations and the dealer gets a fixed handling fee per order (around £350 from memory – might have increased now). The car also counts towards their volume based targets, which determines their buying discounts for the next quarter and their bonuses.  They also get a separate processing fee from Motability Operations for taking back any previous Motability car. Adjusting the AP (if it drops) takes around 5 minutes and it’s a minor admin task on the Motability order system – it doesn’t affect the actual order as that is completely separate.

If the dealer only makes £350 how are some of them offering £800 plus discounts off some cars ?

Is the manufacturer covering the discount and if so why wouldn’t every dealer be offering the discount on that model ?

It is because of the way main dealership manufacturer bonuses work.

For example, if a main dealer exceeds their overall quarterly sales target, they may hit a bonus of, for example £500 per vehicle sold. Some of this can be offset back to the customer, including Motability customers by way of reducing the AP or cashback. This might then induce further bonuses to the dealership if extra volume is sold.

Or if the the dealership are just shy of their target, they might offer a discount to encourage overall sales to try to get them ‘over the line’ to trigger the manufacturer bonus. It is often why dealerships pre-register cars and sell them as pre-registered – to hit their quarterly bonus.

How much the actual bonuses are is a well-guarded secret between dealer and manufacturer and can have many variables (such as if a manufacturer wants rid of a particular vehicle before a relaunch etc).

Or a dealership maybe over-stocked or had cancellations they want rid of quickly, so offer a discount to shift them. This would generally be a hit to the dealership, but some will wear it to hopefully get in more saleable (thus profitable and bonus hitting)  stock.

When is the £750 ending for existing customers?

I thought I’d explained that in my post, when I mentioned that Motability orders also count towards their overall sales volumes, which determines their discounts and incentives on ALL the cars they sell, but @BigDave has explained it far better. This is why dealers are talking complete BS when they say “all we make out of a Motability sale is a small fixed handling fee”. That is only part of the picture. I had almost £1k discount off the AP and optional extras on our previous Motability car and the dealer would have still made a profit on the transaction!

it was due to end December 31st 2024, but they have extended it to 3rd January 2025. Im guessing they’re allowing people time for people t get their orders sorted during the Christmas period when dealerships close

The scenic is a nice looking car that is far better for 4 people compared to say the Megan E Tec

And comes with even better tech

The trade off is that the Scenic will not drive as nice ( I hear) as the Megan E Tec due to its  30 stone or so of incresed weight

The Megan E Tec on 20 inch wheels surprisingly brush off pot holes quite well and drives like a dream but dont expect the same from the Scenic I hear

The Scenic looks like a proper grown up family car unlike the imo nicer looking Megan which imo only has back seat/head room on longer trips for those under 12s

Bigger car needed then it has to be the Scenic

Dont need that extra space but want a superior driving experience then it has to be the E Tec

Either way 2 great cars from Renault
