Quarter 3 (July 2024) Prices – Please post here

Last quarter was very confusing to follow as there were 3 or 4 different threads on the go all with different information regarding the new quarters prices. Hopefully, everyone will agree that it makes far more sense to have just one thread with this information, so I thought I would start this one.

So please post any confirmed prices (rather than rumours, speculation or wish lists) on this thread. Thanks!

Looking at the Skoda Enyaq Q3 prices on Motability’s website, compared to Q2, 85 Edition models have gone up by £400 85x has gone up by £800, from £1,599 to £2,399 🙁

While it sucks, i actually do think that it’s still within reason. It’s a lot of car, still probably one of the best MB options out there (if you can charge at home, that is). To put this into a little bit of context, £1800 is what we paid for our 1.5 first gen Ateca in 2019 (before prices exploded).

The very best choice, imho, is the Megane E-Tech. Again, if you can charge at home, that is. If you can make the cars circumstances (size, charging) work for you, that’s the car to get.

Of course, many prices are absolutely ridiculous this quarter and we’re very glad that we don’t have to change just yet (just keeping up with the offers) – but one has to be realistic, too. £2400 is still very reasonable for a huge and high spec, 82kwh battery AWD car coming in at as near as it makes no difference £50k.

If only everything else would be priced as reasonable as this, there’d be no grounds to complain. As it stands, if we had to change now, it would be either Megane or Enyaq. Maybe the ID3, though i don’t think that’s a particularly great offer compared to the Megane. While we would prefer a PHEV (8.5 GTE would be great, at a reasonable price), it’s just not justifiable at the current prices.

edit: one thing the Tories did indeed do is give us cheap EVs on the scheme, since the mandate is their brain child. We can argue whether or not that’s great (i think it is), but it’s something directly attributable to them.

Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23
        Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate
        Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.

As in my previous comment, I’d say the ZEV mandate has something to do with it –

          • Car makers are snookered by fines and legislation and are having to increase prices at a ridiculous rate in order to not go bust.

As it was the Tories who came up with the idea –

          • It’s the Tories – They did it.

Looks like the Renault Scenic in Aline trim was a mistake at £995. Spoken to 2 dealerships and they say it’s not even on the scheme in that spec, let alone price.

How can you make a decision when there’s conflicting information between the manufacturer, the dealerships, and motability itself???

The Esprit Alpine is on the scheme, the person I spoke to at my local dealership was the business manager who phoned Motability themself, it was also confirmed from Renault directly that it is on. They are waiting for Motability to get the issue sorted and it will be on the scheme again, the business manager told me yesterday the model has an assigned motability code and everything they are waiting for it to go back on to get them ordered

                1. The scheme is effectively over if it carries on like this. But … maybe … that is exactly what’s intended perhaps? Taking it down from inside its very structure. I believe this is what we’re seeing.

If you were to play Motability Bingo, you would choose one of the following:

                  • Motability are coining it in and are putting up the prices to give everyone a massive bonus
                  • The AP’s have increased to keep pace with the price increases of new cars
                  • The cost of new small cars (historically where Motability raised a surplus) has increased at a faster rate than larger cars ‘Europe’s five biggest carmakers have raised the prices of their cheapest models by an average of 41% since 2019
                  • We are all paying for the massive investment in order to make Motability the leader in EV sales, cost of charging points to customers, reducing AP’s on very expensive Electric cars etc.
                  • Car makers are snookered by fines and legislation and are having to increase prices at a ridiculous rate in order to not go bust.
                  • The Scheme has grown at its fastest rate ever, the only way to slow the growth is to raise prices
                  • It’s the Tories – They did it.
                  • A combination of the above.

Lol Well, it has to be a combination of some of those. As to which ones who knows? We do know that the current government wants to do away with PIP as it currently exists I suppose.

Bearing in mind the surplus of funds Motability have been carrying for a number of years now it seems somewhat odd considering they claim to be a charity. The current prices, overall for a disabled person requiring a vehicle to be used for transporting a mobility scooter or wheelchair etc, are certainly not going to benefit someone who needs help. Levelling up? 😬

Well you got a lot more sense than what I got from the two dealerships I spoke to. The first one also said taht the matt paint would be chargeable so wouldn’t be an option on Motability even of the Alpine was available.

Bit disappointing as they just didn’t seem interested in talking with me or finding any info out.

to be honest the renault megane is a great car apart from issues with it so bad it got mechanically terminated, faulty motor, wait 3 months to replace, Faulty headlight, we dont know when would be able to replace that, when the car got to the dealer their were 3 in pieces, they may have fixed them by now… The worse thing was the motorway range, a weekly 160 mile round trip (145 of those at motorway speeds, car claimed it was getting 3.5kw/mile) but at the end of the 80 miles one way you would have 45 tol 51% depending on time of year , it did not add up (and the efficency is not just questioned by me, others had issues.  How ever the ioniq 5 with 80% charge (62 kw left so only 2kw more than the megane) that is heavier, does about 3.2 to 3.3 kw/mile at motoway speeds can do the same journey from 80% and still get back with 26% battery.. for me the numbers just do not add up correct with the megane.  I know the knew scenic though does have a different motor (same one but redesigned with nissans help) maybe they know the older motors efficency is awfal but dont want to admit it.

If you go on Motability website now there has been 3 cars added, 2 of them being the Scenic techno and Esprit Alpine that should have been on yesterday 👍

One of the dealerships were good enough to get back to me and let me know it was their mistake. Just waiting for them to report back on the matt paint option as it was that dealership that told me it wouldn’t be available due to the price.

Has anyone come across the Q3 Hyundai price list yet? As of this morning the Motability price list on the Hyundai website was still Q2, but this afternoon that was removed and no Q3 price list has been added. There are just example APs on each car, and when you click on ‘See all offers’ for that particular car you get nothing else 😡 Hopefully all the info on the Motability website is now accurate, but I always prefer to see the manufacturer price lists.

This info from a Dealer Principal who was at a meeting with Motability yesterday.

The price hikes we have noticed this quarter are primarily driven by concerns about the residual (second hand) values of electric vehicles. As we know, Motability have been really pushing the adoption of EVs and therefore their exposure to the current market volatility in this segment is growing. Motability are warning that they are continuing to review this and that whilst they are currently trying to minimise the impact on customers, more price increases are likely.

Someone posted a quote on here recently from a trade journal quoting Motability Operations as saying that each 1% movement in residual values affects them to the tune of £102m. Used values of ICE cars have been phenomenally high in recent years due to new car supply issues, and Motability Operations really cleaned up on the back of this, but as these supply issues are pretty much all resolved now that windfall is all but over. The specific problems with the residual values of EVs has been widely reported, and appears not to be lessening. I think we had assumed that this was being offset by manufacturers offering very good deals at the point of purchase, but it appears that isn’t covering all of the potential exposure.

I am unclear as to whether future increases will be restricted to EVs (where the specific residual value concerns are) or will be spread wider (including ICE cars) so as to still encourage the take up of EV’s. I suspect it will be the latter.
