I had a short  list of 3 cars for my pending replacement (could order from mid March) but I wanted to actually test drive all of them for suitability etc…

      they were

toyota CHR design auto – was £795 AP now in Q2 £2495!!!!

seat ateca FR Sport – also gone up

Citroen new C4 was £995 AP but now in Q2 is down £795

so it’s forced my hand & all down to how the new C4 is for access, comfort and how it drives – whenever local dealer has a demonstrator available ???

NB I understand that AP’s change quarterly & sometimes unfathomable but How can Toyota / Motability Operations justify the increase in the advance payment on the Toyota CHR design trim from £795 to £2495!!! Moreover the advance payment for the CHR design at £2545 (rrp £28625) and the RAV4 design is £2595 (rrp £32375) !!! Almost £4K difference in list price – yet just £50 difference in AP for same trim level, on the scheme. It’s beyond belief & im extremely disappointed. I had my heart set on the CHR design at advance payment of £795 as it was in Q1 but today in Q2 is £2545!!!

Sorry that you’ve been unlucky Dante, but that’s the problem with the scheme.

Re pricing and AP’s, it’s not just what cars Motability want on the scheme, it’s also very much about what the manufacturers want to offer.

If a car isn’t selling and they have stocks they need to clear, then the price they offer to Motability reduces, but when they can’t meet the demand, they increase prices to slow the demand, it’s market forces in action.

You often see this with new models being really cheap for 1 or 2 quarters just so that people see the cars on the road and to drive interest, similarly, when a model is about to be replaced, they reduce prices, a case in point the Kona Electric, dropping nearly £2500 this quarter, as they have to shift these old models before the introduction of the new one, and many customers will want the new model unless the deal is too good to be refused.

Hopefully, there will be something suitable and desirable for you, and you can get out test driving soon

Dante, knowing your limits on adavance payments, take a look at the Mazda CX-5, the SE-L was £2699 in Q1, it’s now £499 for the manual, and £999 for the Auto
