Pre-Registered vehicles?

Why is it that Motability don’t allow us to choose pre-registered vehicles? This would give us more choice. The warranty should be pretty much the same as long as the car is not that old, and Motability should also pay less.

I quite agree Grant, especially with the ridiculously long lead times of the most popular cars these days. I guess it’s partly to do with the fact that with pre-registered cars Motability would become the 2nd owner, whereas all their cars are sold on as one owner currently. I suspect that it also adds a level of additional complexity.

Given the vast numbers of Motability cars being returned by customers failing the PIP application process, I don’t understand why they don’t offer cars that have been returned early, for the remainder of their contracts, for other customers. In the days when I had company cars, we used to do that. Cars from those who had left the company were distributed on a pool list and, if it appealed, you could take it. If nothing appealed, you ordered a new car of your choice. Again, with long lead times (but also for those qualifying for the scheme for the first time), this would, I am sure, be very popular.

I think Motability thinking behind having factory fresh cars is they don’t get caught in the “last year’s model” trap.

With models being superseded or face lifted every few years they want to make sure, if they can, that cars returned after 3 years will still have some resemblance to the current model of today and therefore fetch a better price.

Just my thinking of how Motability maybe thinking.

One of the issues with retutned cars will be lets say it was returned in lands end and the new client turned out to be in john o groats the logistics in moving the cars about and getting them to new owners and then for them to be deemed unsuitable would be horrendous and would destroy any benefits

Due to the discount Motability receive from the manufacturer, pre-reg cars are probably more expensive. There is no consistency in pricing or availability of pre-reg cars, it depends on the dealer how much they are willing to charge and whether or not they needed to register vehicles in order to meet target. It would be a nightmare for Motability to work out on each car, how much AP to charge. At 0ne point , you were able to buy a used vehicle via Motability using your allowance, but this facility has been withdrawn.
