i have to admit that i start looking at what car i am going to get far in advance of the renewal date, well over a year usually.
but now i think theres something wrong with me, lol my new car a countryman isnt even here yet due 14 march ish. and i find myself looking at the search sites etc to see what is likely going to be on the shortlist in 3 years time, or even 5 years if i like the countryman.
do you think i am addicted????

Yup. ? Along with the majority of bods here, Mitch. I’m right with you and certainly do similar. A rolling spreadsheet of cars, constant searching regardless of time in the lease, close attention to all reviews posted, etc. And I’m only on my first Motability car!
I regard it as a therapy, same as the interaction on here. We’re all in the same boat or have close family/friends using/thinking of using the scheme.
?
? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

Dante<p style=”text-align: left;”>I think a lot of us in the same boat – it’s almost become a hobby & would be my specialist subject on mastermind!!! And although I thinks it’s great keeping a breast of the changes and nuances of the scheme – it frustrates me that when I do go to an accredited dealership – 9 times out of 10 I know much more than the ‘Motability Specialist’</p>
the trend of rising AP’s and especially the differential between the baby sis & autism is concerning. Yes the scheme needs due diligence and robust systems in place but the amount of money in reserve by both Motsbility operations & moreso Motsbility Charity are very concerning & more of this money should be invested in grants, lowering AP’s, better training & accreditation for dealerships & a ‘mystery shopper’ programme too.
the cap on car rrp’s and bhp should also be reviewed at least annuallyMarch 3, 2020 at 8:57 am #108230Please add me to the sad person list I have been watching over the past couple of years, I have ordered my next car, which is due in May, I am happy with my decision so why am I still looking.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

BrydoI think we are all a bit crazy, whether Motability have turned us this way I’m not sure lol.
Where there’s blame there’s a claim lol.

LandymanCount me in as well. I might be disabled but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying cars.
March 3, 2020 at 10:08 am #108244That’s why we are here, all getting our “Fix”…
Like BionicRusty I am forever creating shortlists, reading reviews and generally perusing whats available from the moment I ordered my first car.
I still have over a year to go, so far, my luck has been terrible, ordered my car, the following quarter, cheap Volvo X60’s flooded the scheme. I decided 3 yrs later that the Titanium X Galaxy was a cracking bargain at £1800, it vanished, all the AP’s shot up & the “X” spec needed another £2400 over the now near £3000 AP!
I will pronounce myself a jinx if the Tiguan R-Line auto vanishes a quarter before my renewal or triples its AP!
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
March 3, 2020 at 10:21 am #108245It’s good to know that it’s not only me who’s addicted to constantly looking at new cars coming on the scheme… even if I still have a long or short period left on my lease!
I’ve had my Toyota C-HR exactly 2-years today and I’ve loved every driven mile in it. I have (however) spent at least one day of every week since picking it up scouring the interweb for what’s new in the automotive world! With 9-months to go until I can order my next vehicle, I have already spent an unhealthy amount of time reading car reviews galore & watching close-on a million car reviews on YouTube (well it feels like a million!).
I don’t require a wheelchair… and I don’t need a big car as such. My C-HR is the biggest car I’ve ever had as my previous cars on the scheme have all been hatchbacks… the C-HR being my 9th car on the scheme. I have narrowed it down to 3 cars that take my fancy & have read every single review, watched every single video, and even driven by dealers with said car in the showroom/on the forecourt – just to have a peep in person! And I still can’t make my mind up !!!
I love the new Ford Puma. Sat in one in Chichester the other day at Hendy Ford. Like the majority of us on the forum however, I only have an automatic license due to my disability (polio – and I drive an automatic car with my left leg – unmodified. I know that sounds uncomfortable – but it isn’t & it’s what I’m used to! I must be the only person alive however that loves it when a car manufacturer swaps left-hand to right-hand drive for UK versions & has offset pedals… the more offset infact – the better! Whenever a motoring journalist complains about a cars’ offset pedals in a review – I’m interested!!!).
Alas, Ford do not do the Puma in automatic just yet. They are hoping to bring out a dual clutch version later this year – so I’ve read. That leaves the gorgeous Toyota Corolla GR Sport 2.0l hybrid and the striking new Peugeot 208 GT Line (awarded ‘Car of the Year 2020’ just yesterday) for me to consider.
Unless, of course, something else comes along in the meantime that really captures my attention! I’ll keep looking – as you do – constantly. I’m with you Mitch. It’s addictive! So much so that I’m off to make a cup of tea & get my daily fix of ‘Auto Express’ to see what’s new … … …
Have a good day all.
March 3, 2020 at 10:45 am #108248Me too, whilst I love my Kuga, (only had it since September) I always keep an eye on ap’s, and continually shortlist cars that will suit me throughout my current lease.
In May 2017 we ordered a Ford Kuga diesel 150bhp Powershift it only the Zetec mode with an AP £1295.00, over the lease we have nearly covered 19,000 miles approximately 4,000 miles towing a caravan, apart from a replacement battery it has not missed a beat, there is still good tread on the tyres, original brake pads etc, it due for replacing in May, we will miss it.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

MikeSolent60 what mpg have you been getting with your CHR ?
March 3, 2020 at 12:11 pm #108258Talking of the Peugeot 208,i went for an extended test drive in a e-208 on sunday and it is a great little car and very nice to drive, imho probably the best looking small ev there is at the moment.
The one i test drove was the top range GT and the interior is a nice place to be.

72 dudesGlad it’s not just me then!
Our Audi Q3 goes back next Tuesday and we will be collecting the Volvo XC40 Inscription T4 auto.
But we started looking and test driving last September and I am always looking at what’s new, what the APs are etc
I often play out little scenarios for example if Mrs 72 dudes decided a normal non SUV was ok, what would we choose (Mercedes A Class saloon)
Or what if we limited the AP to £1000?
All good fun!
March 3, 2020 at 12:35 pm #108262Well they do say “every-man should have a hobby as it keeps us out of trouble”.?
There’s very few cars that are suitable for myself so I do follow a particular model but do a bit of Googling in and out in the inbetween years seeing if something else comes on the market that matches my model in mind.
My order time is the end of July next year so won’t actually go to showrooms to then but yes, I will be trawling the net for better specs and cheaper toys too then.

PhiljbThe problem being we can’t be sure any cars will still be here tomorrow let alone in a few years time.
Being honest there isn’t a single car on the scheme right now that Id be prepared to swap what I’ve got.
If that doesn’t change I’ll be happy to extend or get another tiggy.saying that I’m crossing everything that the new Volvo XC60 comes on the scheme, now that I would be interested in.
March 3, 2020 at 5:52 pm #108312Solent60 what mpg have you been getting with your CHR ?
Hi Mike. I’ve been out all day so apologies for delay in getting back to you.
I have the 1.2 turbo Dynamic automatic Mike and get around 36-37 mpg. Not too bad. Toyota have withdrawn this engine in the C-HR as well as in the new Corolla in the UK which is a shame. My local Toyota dealer gave me £400 off the AP when I went to look at it & test drove it 2-years ago. I have always loved the look of the car & it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven in both terms of seating & on the road itself. I see the AP has risen considerably for the C-HR recently… no surprise there then!
The new Peugeot 208 GT Line is top of my list as regards my next car. I have yet to read or see a bad review on it and I love the look of it inside & out. I think I would opt for that metallic yellow colour too. Hopefully the AP will stay as it is by the time I order (£875 I think it is) but who knows with the lottery that is Motability/Dealerships! The Toyota Corolla GR Sport keeps whispering my name though…

GeorgieI’m just under 1 year in with my current car, which I love, but I’ve still got a ‘short list’ of 13 other vehicles in case I need to change it at short notice for some reason.
I wonder if it’s due to to disabled people (or their parents, carers, etc.) usually having to plan most aspects of their life in more detail – ‘Just in case’? We know just how quickly things can go pear-shaped.
Or maybe it’s just that we sometimes get really, really bored. 🙂
March 4, 2020 at 9:38 am #108401Excellent point Georgie, about us having to plan ahead. I agree.
Or you may just be a bona fide petrol head! ?
My days of fast, sporty cars are sadly long gone but that doesn’t mean I’ve lost my love of all things automotive. In fact I’ve recently taken to perusing what tractor I’d have. (I know, I know!)
The fact is, I’m so grateful to Motability for not only the ability to keep me mobile in a time in my life where our savings have been eaten up by various elements of my disability, but also it allows me to engage in my passion for window shopping of cars on the scheme. My heart truly wants a Mini Cooper but it can’t happen. Only this morning I was talking to my 16yr old daughter who desperately wants one as her first car. My conclusion? I must be doing the ‘ole parenting thing right! ??
Apologies for the outpour. As my twisted bod aches, protests and groans, typing my mind actually helps. My mind goes at a million mph but my body is stalling. No one should be in this much pain. Some days I truly do think….. ?
? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?
