Mick NHi everyone
I have had my current vehicle, a Ford focus ST for 6 years now with no trouble at all. With all the problems we’ve had over the last few years I couldn’t find a suitable replacement.
At last I got an order in for a mini JCW premium pack and optional blacked out windows. Delivery mid to end of May. I nearly fell off my seat, I was expecting a very long wait.
Are the dates everyone is getting for delivery proving reliable?I hope so

Mini !!! That takes me back!, first car I ever bought was a used Mini, 1970 J reg, cost me all of £350 ? Wide wheels and bucket seats, still not sure how I managed to get in/out of it being 6′-5 1/2″ but of course I was in my early 20’s, somewhat slimmer and no mobility issues! I loved that car ?
im sorry to hear that the car would be too much of a struggle for you dimension wise ??
can’t win them all eh ☹️

Make melonade!April 5, 2023 at 9:08 pm #217981We were on holiday last week and we walked past a Mini John Cooper Works. We both thought it looked fantastic. My wife couldn’t believe it when I told her that it was now available on Motability ? Completely impractical for us, but I’m sure that anyone who gets one will have tremendous fun!

Mick NLooks amazing Dan, is it midnight blue?
cant wait to see more pics. How long did you wait from order to delivery?
not long now Winston?? I’m going to call the dealership and see if I’ve got the same time frame as you. Why is time so slow.

nice to hear you both thought the car looked great , it’s def a breath of fresh air for the scheme – impractical for the majority I understand but def a welcome addition for those can manage it’s dimensions
like I mentioned previously during my 4 hour test drive I found myself smiling like a right wally behind the wheel when driving it – probably looked like I’d be let out for the day ? but who cares ??♂️

Mick NNice one Winston, I will get on it tomorrow.
ill let you know how it goes. ??April 6, 2023 at 12:01 am #218013It’s the enigmatic black, (most expensive option on the website but free for me apparently!)
It’s blueish under the sun apparently.
I actually test drove one on Monday, did some looking on all the different mini dealerships websites, I found one in stock not far from my parents which I’m visiting this weekend, rang them up Tuesday morning, did the forms and I pick up on Saturday.. had to be flexible with options of course but it fits me and my budget perfectly!
April 6, 2023 at 1:56 am #218021Nice action mate – I saw the enigmatic up close at the dealership – very cool , looks black then up close in the sun you see the lovely Blue ??
ha we can have our own little Italian job gang in here soon lol

Mick NThat’s the colour I actually wanted it looks amazing in the sun or under street lights. but the wife chose the rebel green, ??♂️
I went for the 17” alloys too, I liked the look of black on green.

So true Winston. I was beginning to think that I was the only person on this forum who wasn’t obsessed by cheap running costs as the primary consideration when it comes to choosing a car.
Reminds me of one of my Uncles. Like me, he was always in to his cars. The last time he visited (aged 78) he roared up in his Porsche Macan GTS with Porsche sports exhaust and various other options. It sounded absolutely fantastic. He told me that one of his neighbours had asked him what sort of MPG he got out of it and his answer was “I don’t know and I don’t care, because I enjoy every minute of it”. Sadly, he died suddenly not long after I saw him from a combination of a particularly aggressive cancer and Covid. He had, however, lived his life to the full.
If something like a Porsche Macan came into the scheme (pigs might fly, I know) I would snap it up and not care one jot if I only got 23mpg out of it (which, by the way, was what he was getting when his daughter looked it up on the cars computer after he died) ?
April 6, 2023 at 2:43 pm #218129I’m sorry to hear that your Uncle passed ??He sounded like quite the character mind you ? and I’m sure he enjoyed his life more than most ??
I’ve never driven anything as fancy or exciting as your late Uncles last car ( not even close lol ) but I can honestly say I’ve never once took into consideration the running costs or fuel economy when it comes to choosing any car I’ve owned ??♂️
Couldn’t tell you what my current or last few cars average mpg was, same goes with food in the shops – when the car is near empty it’s time to fill up , same when the cupboards and fridge
I know times are tough and it pays to be prudent but it’s easy to go too far and end up a slave to the pound , watching every penny and end up a miserable old git in a cold house
There are times when it’s best to just go with the flow , accept you’re a passenger , don’t be too serious and try have a bit of fun – while you’re able ??
well that’s what I think ( some days ) ?

Make melonade!April 8, 2023 at 5:10 pm #218289This thread took me back to 1986 when I owned a 2yr old black mini mayfair
I did question myself after sitting in it and catching my fingers in the seat adjustments quickly followed by a painful blow to the funny bone when swinging my arm to lean out of the window
Torrential rain caused the engine to die whilst hurtling down the M4 in the fast lane ( v scary)
Quickly recovered
I then went onto have many miles of fun in my little pride and joy
April 11, 2023 at 10:01 am #218664Its been a great couple days since picking up on Saturday morning, as it was my birthday the dealer took me to the petrol station and gave me a full tank!
This thing is amazing, it really picks up!
Blasting down B roads is so fun, it cruises down the motorway at 70 so happily.
I took it from Essex to Manchester on the M1 avg 40mpg with cruise control set at 72.
Then did a blast of snakes pass which was about 32 mpgdriving around town with the limiter at 32mph its the smoothest thing I’ve ever driven and that includes a 22 plate corolla.
I’m in love.
April 11, 2023 at 10:19 am #218666Glad to hear your happy with it and having fun 🙂

April 11, 2023 at 6:26 pm #218700I’m at a bit of a predicament where I have nowhere to drive at the moment!
Still giggling every time I see though.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi Winston and Top8Dan, Lovely choice, what fuel does it require, std unleaded fine? Or must be super or vpower etc.</p>
Thanks in advance. What do you guys expect will be a real world mpg.
Best wishes
April 12, 2023 at 9:06 am #218743I’ve been giving it regular supermarket unleaded, fuel cap says 95 octane and I’m getting about 37mpg with spirited driving with the limiter at 32 around Manchester.
I’m tempted to give it a tank of momentum and see if that improves anything.

Thanks for the reply Dan, that might is crazy, can’t believe it, absolutely brilliant. The better fuel will give a slight edge imo but doubt it will be worth the extra cost. I’m 99% going for it, it seems too good an opportunity to pass up, just need a test drive to see if I think I can manage to drive it comfortably and will be able to live with it long term.
Happy driving chaps.

that’s the best thing to do mate , my first test drive was the standard 30 mins with the sale rep next to me – absolutely ???
Hated every minute of it
So I went to a different dealer , explained where I’m coming from and reservations about a car this size and much lower etc and said I would need a much longer time behind the wheel to make a better decision on it
It wasn’t a problem, I got the managers car ( JCW ) for 4 hours
again for the first 30 mins or so I did not like it one bit – I was like Victor Meldrew behind the wheel , moaning out loud – it’s too low , I can’t see blah blah
and then it all passed, the clouds parted like the start of The Simpsons and a smile appeared on my face
the next 3 hours or so I thoroughly enjoyed it and I knew I was ready to take a punt on it
the rep was like just take your time , call me next week etc
But I signed up there n then after spending some time on the configurator
no deposit , no pressure , the AP has been lowered by £400 which has been updated on my online account already – so all good ??
goee into production end of this month and should collect next month
just need to find some Roman Gold coins to help pay for the AP & Option and I’m all set ?
never been a mini fan – but when I’m driving now I’ve got my eye trained to keep a look out for any other JCW’s on the road
So my only advice is find a dealer that’s willing to give you a test drive on your own for a few hours , get out on the roads and see how you feel
i found it suprisingly comfy , I’ll need to work on my exits though… not very graceful ??♂️?

Make melonade!April 12, 2023 at 11:47 am #218781It’s very comfy for me but I’m only 5’5!
Ive found with the seat up high the mirror blocks quite a bit of visibility but with the seat low it’s perfect.
I do make a noise getting out but I’ll live with it!
