Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
He wants me to call in in the morning with my debit card with the advance payment of £845 yes I know it’s early I don’t mind wants PIN number which I’ve had from motability in post next Monday when I pick car up ! I’m so excited can’t wait !

They must do the payment by Bank Transfer Mike. It takes 4 or 5 days to process.
They only do Max £250 by debit card and £400 and similar for cash..(or somethjng like that, cant remember the figures) by credit card.

Its the new way of paying the AP. Especially if its a group or chain of garages, like mine was

My last car in 2020, I paid 1600 by debit card no problem.
But its all different today. It will probably change again in a few years as well.
I cant see why people cant get their head around changes to systems, procedures, and rules. Motability have a habit of suddenly and frequently changing the rules

The dealer should not ask for any payment prior to you inspecting the car and if it is OK then you sign with your pin.
It is at this point you pay the AP.
If you pay prior to this it is counted as a deposit and you are legally bound to accept the car

The dealerships have accounting rules they must abide by….the comment above is tosh. It is NOT a deposit.

Credit and Debit cards operate on a basis of “cleared funds”up to the value in your account and payment authorised immediately by the bank and are paid to the merchant when they request it.
Most dealers will except debit card payment up to £10,000 and a similar amount for credit cards however, they reserve a right to charge a fee if using a credit card.
Some dealers base payment methods on the amount owed after part exchange hase been taken into account and could request a banktransfer if the difference is over £25,000. Lexus for example states that if the amount owed after px is above 26,000, then bank transfer must be used.
Dealers can accept cash but, only High value dealers who register with the Money laundering supervision, can accept or make high value cash payments over £8,700.
FWIW I paid the £2,100 AP with £20 notes however I did clear it with the dealer long before collection day!
Mone of matters because, the dealer wouldn’t be telling Mike to pop around tomorrow to make a bank transfer infront of them would they! Most likely its to cut the time down on collection day.

Paid for mine on the day, thought it would be a nightmare as had my card cloned two days before! Dealer never asked for anything up front, explained my situation before I went and they sorted a cocoon type payment where I paid from my bank into theirs immediately, like a transfer, amount was over £2000.

On the day of collection, I paid over £8k AP using my debit card. Before paying, I had a walk around the vehicle to ensure everything was satisfactory. I made the payment and then entered my unique pin All payments made through credit, debit, and bank transfers are immediate. This is the third time I have used this payment method for vehicles on the scheme without any issues.

Don’t let it worry you mate, as its not the first time you have had dealings with the dealership and hope you enjoy the new car, as much as you have the current one 🙂
Yes Kezo they have been fantastic over the last 3 years with my current Chr it’s locked in compound so I can’t see it but he said it looks fabulous

Like most others, I have never paid the AP prior to pick up and having checked the car. I move bigger sums than that around on a fairly regular basis and they never take more than a couple of minutes to clear. Some dealers just take the proverbial.
