      Well, a month in with the ID.4, after three years with an early model ID.3, and it’s a cracking car. No faults, no glitches, and an absolute pleasure to drive. We went to London for the weekend just gone, loaded it up and the boot swallowed my folding electric-wheelchair (my daily ‘chair is a self-propelled type) and electric scissor-ramp (so my wife can load/unload the folding chair). It’s ticking all the boxes for what we needed and VW seem to have got their act together again, as far as the quality is concerned, for me.

      I’m happy!

            @Rhodgie, cheers 👍

            @kezo, I paid £434 in 1994 for a base model, 3 door manual (autos were about £1,000 more), 1.4 Astra. I couldn’t drive the manual and if I could’ve afforded the extra £1000 for an auto, you also had to buy your own hand-controls back then. This one cost me £49 AP, with hand-controls, and the two cars don’t bear comparison. Yes, I’m content! 🙂

              Ah Stuart A, that takes me back a bit… in 1991 I paid £800 for a basic 3 door automatic Astra, the manual version was zero. It didn’t even have a clock and for some reason this really bothered me so I paid £15 for a clock and another £15 to the garage to fit it 🤷‍♂️ don’t know why as I didn’t need it but my head was a bit messed up then. It also cost me another £450 for push/pull hand controls.   So as a wheelchair user we were doubly punished by the excessive AP (still relevant today) and having to pay for hand controls 😡

              I saved up £3k for my next deposit in 1994 (Rover 216GSi I think?) when I thought sod this and went private for the 20 years.

              The scheme isn’t perfect these days but as Harold Macmillan said “you’ve never had it so good” 😂😂

              It’ll be interesting to see how things are in another 30 years 🤔
