Mileage excess

      Hi,

I have a question please if you have any idea … I had a motability car in January 2020 and decided to change it after about 1 year because it’s not suitable for me, I have ordered the new car in December 2020 and it’s ready for collection next week … The car is in perfect condition as new but I think that I have exceeded the 60000 mileage … After the service in January the mileage was reset and now it showing only 17000 but I know before the service the mileage was about 50000.

I am really confused on how this will be calculated for the excess mileage payment … I had the car for 1 year then another 6 months until the new car is ready.

Thank you so much for reading.

I’m a bit confused by your post. You say you think your pre service mileage was about 50,000 on a one year old car. This would be a phenomenal mileage, averaging about 1,000 miles per week, more than most sales reps would achieve.

Secondly, garages never reset mileage when servicing a car, unless your speedometer has failed and needed replacing.

I think you’re mistaken about your mileage and your true mileage is 17,000.

67000 total mileage in 18 months and alot of those months were lockdown, are you sure ?or typo error?

The mileage can’t be “reset” by the dealer and it certainly can’t have a new random figure put in there (17,000 miles)?

I think you have mistaken some other numbers on the display for your mileage and the 17k when it left the dealership after the service in January is the correct figure.

Making a 125+ journey every single day for the last year and a half not only is a mind boggling feat that would put even the busiest of airport taxis in the shade, the fuel cost alone would be astronomical, not to mention the numerous sets of tyres it would have gone through in 67k and brakes etc etc etc.

I think we need clarification of the mileage actually done before advice can be offered.

Blimey. For 18 months I had a 250 miles a day round trip commute to West London and even though it was in a fully expensed BMW 530d it nearly killed me, but 450 miles a day in an Astra doesn’t bear thinking about ?
