Have a read https://www.motability.co.uk/whats-available/adaptations/store/
Also ring Motability customer service for further advice. 03004564566
Also your MG dealer should be able to advise you on this matter.

May 24, 2023 at 8:51 am #222280Hi thanks for the replies,
Information is sketchy in regards to hoists my usual fitter as no information but believes you should be able to fit one depending on the floor, while the MG dealer is useless.
May 24, 2023 at 9:45 am #222284Contact MG UK you might get some sense out of them being they are the ones who design the car.
@BigDave has put an offer on this morning for a Kona premium 64kW £499 (in stock), which has no questions around a hoist being fitted lolMay 24, 2023 at 11:17 am #222302I had a look at this yesterday and was stunned at how nice it is as for the boot its got a very sloping back window so I can imagine it could be a bit tight.
From April 2024 Toyota BZ4X now From april 2025 Skoda Enyaq 85 Edition due to BZ4x being written off
May 24, 2023 at 12:29 pm #222306Hi yeah Kona are a good shout, worth taking a look at though this purchase will be private one of the reasons looking at the MG was they offer a affinity discount scheme for ‘blue light workers’.
Wife works for the NHS and with her needing adaptions can also get the VAT exemption which usually knocks quite a bit of the list price, however as the salesman informed me she wouldn’t be able to get the affinity offer as well as the VAT exemption as that would be too much of a discount!
I did say that in that case offering an able bodied person the affinity discount but witholding it from a disabled person on the grounds that they have a exempt from paying the VAT due to the costs of the adaptions needed is discrimination.
May 24, 2023 at 12:33 pm #222307Hi MG4 are outstanding for the money and drive and handle really well, I had the same thoughts about the boot as you.
Though we did manage to fit a hoist in VX Agilla a few years back, smaller car but had a squared off boot.
May 24, 2023 at 12:38 pm #222308I don’t see why they can’t also apply the VAT exemption?, it’s not like they’re loosing any money?
It’s not their money, they just collect it and pay it to the goverment. If you’re exempt they don’t collect it and don’t have to pay it.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
May 24, 2023 at 12:50 pm #222309Hi Phaedra,
To be fair the sales rep didn’t seem to have a clue about the VAT exemption a bit of a worry as I speaking to the sales manager! he seemed a bit annoyed that with the affinity and vat deductions we could have a MG4 for less than £20k, at the moment its only at the enquiry stage so I wasn’t going to argue the point, as you say all they need to do is present me with a final invioce with no VAT added as long as I provide a declaration form.
Been to a number of dealers some a very clued up about the Vat exemption and gave me figures both to buy and or lease with the exemption added, though the majority dont seem to have a clue, one even told me that I pay the VAT then claim it back!
May 24, 2023 at 2:36 pm #222320Hi Volkswin, just done a search on bing and this come up…
If you are disabled, you may be able to claim VAT relief on certain goods and services for disabled people. However, the rules for VAT relief on cars are different. You can get a VAT exemption on a new car if you have a disability that qualifies you for the scheme. The car must be for your own personal or domestic use. You can also get an affinity discount if you are eligible for the scheme. However, you cannot claim both the affinity discount and the zero VAT at the same time 1,2-links provided….

May 24, 2023 at 3:39 pm #222333Hi Kezo, thanks for your input would it be possible to provide a link that states you cannot claim VAT relief along with a manufacturers offer in this case MG Affinity.
I was under the immpression the MG Affinity scheme is MG’s own promotional scheme for blue light workers and families etc, the only restrictions in the terms and conditions I can see is that it cannot be used in conjunction with any other MG UK offers.
We have purchased a number of vehicles with the VAT exemption over the years and any deals or price discounts I have managed to negotiate on the vehicle have had nothing to do with the VAT exemption which has always been removed once the sale price has been agreed between myself and the supplying dealer.
What clouds the issue further is after speaking to another MG dealer who when asked siad that as long as all the crtieria for the VAT exemption are met the VAT exemption would be applied to the affinity price as the affinity pffer is completely seperate from the VAT exemption.
May 24, 2023 at 4:24 pm #222337Hi, when I did the search this “However, you cannot claim both the affinity discount and the zero VAT at the same time 1,2-links provided….” specifically highlighted link 1 above!
Having just searched again and opened the link (1) and read the initial page, I can’t find anything that states you can’t. However there are various sections you can open, which it might state in but, I haven’t looked.
Heres what came up when I searched..
I also came accross this when I searched ” you cannot claim both the affinity discount and the zero VAT at the same time”….
https://www.gov.uk/charge-reclaim-record-vat/vat-on-discounts-and-gifts
Hower I can’t see nothing specific here either?
If yoy have said, another MG dealer has agreed you can have both go with that!
May 24, 2023 at 4:43 pm #222341Hi Kezo, tbh its always fustrating when we go to buy a vehicle with the VAT exemption, as the majority of dealer reps, even the mobility specialists dont ahve a clue.
The screen shot looks like an opinion on a forum, maybe the govt ran an official affinity scheme at one point and you couldn’t apply both who knows, the MG offer got my wifes interest as its was an EV, though at this point we are not decided on what vehicle we will get and to be fair most of these offers are based on the RRP of the vehicle and you can probably get a better discounts by haggling etc.
I think we will do what I have always done in that once we have decided on the shortlist of vehicles spend a weekend towards the end of the month visiting various showrooms and see what deals can be done.
May 24, 2023 at 5:19 pm #222348The government Affinity scheme is as you suggest a scheme that gives a discount on new cars to certain organisations suchas blue light workers. However searching through sections and sub sections on the government website, would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
I would imagine if a dealer has the will, they can work around it, by not inclluding the Affinity discount rather offering a discount for no part x etc, jst as any customer can. As you say walking into a dealership at the end of the month.
The MG4 is a cracking car know MGhave sorted the few niggles. Anyway good luck with your search and do let us know what you choose 🙂
