      Hi Robert

I was discussing this with Alan Cooper the Motability sales executive  at Specialists Cars Skoda Aberdeen, yesterday while we were having our test drive in the new Skoda Karoq, and he was telling me that it is is across the   whole of the car sales industry that this new testing system is causing havoc with. He was saying that some manufactures have removed engines from their stock vehicles because they know they won’t pass the tests, however they don’t have other engines to put into those vehicles, so they will not be available to the market for quite sometime to come, however he did not reveal who the manufactures were.

I’d say all of then, from minor stuff to the whole VAG fiasco.

I’ve tried to sort out a replacement for  my ordered Skoda*neither the Mazda nor Renault dealers could tell me when they could deliver or if the cars offered on scene I wanted were even available to order.

        * I’m cancelling it  but I’m not going too till I’ve got something confirmed and in writing given that my kodiaq was supposed to be handed over too me a well today >_>

Seems that mitsubishi petrols have short times to delivery – at least according to the website

Unless you actually need to change vehicles due to deteriorating health problems or it is your first car, is it actually a problem to wait for the car you have ordered? You still have the current vehicle to use, it still costs no more than before. Are we so spoilt by having a new car every three years that we now feel entitled? My wife had to wait for 6 months for delivery of her new Alhambra and whilst it would have been nice to have had it, there was nothing wrong with her previous car, it was still low mileage and had no problems.

“Are we so spoilt by having a new car every three years that we now feel entitled?”

Depends how you look at it. Our agreement is that we receive a new car that we can not change (without good reason) for 3 years and it’s going to cost us about £60 per week plus an AP.

£60 per week for a new car seems a good deal. Obviously the day after you pick it up it’s not “new”, but as you’ve signed up for 3 years, it’s what you expect and agreed with.

£60 per week for a car over 3 years old isn’t such a good deal. You’ve already handed over £9,000 plus whatever AP you originally paid.

So I guess I would feel entitled to what I’d signed up for.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Motability is doing the right thing – letting you extend the lease, we’d really be in a mess if cars were taken away before the new one arrives. But I still think people can feel aggrieved for the long waits even if their current 3 year old car is still suitable. After all we’re just paying to lease vehicles, they’re not given to us as freebies.

Having said that. I am happy with my Golf DSG 150 GT. The nearest equivalent Golf now on the scheme has an AP approx £700 higher than when I collected my current Golf. If things don’t change by Q1 2019, I’ll be wanting to hold on to my 3 year old Golf (if it’s still running well) as I don’t think I can afford the AP on similar specced cars with same power (Adaptive Cruise Control and 150BHP+), yet I won’t be allowed to.

                Hi Gilders

If your Golf DSG 150 GT still meets your needs when you are due to change it, you can ask Motability for an extension to your lease, which they are more than likely to do for up to two years. That means that you can look round for something that suits your needs while you still have the original vehicle that you liked, still on lease.

Hi Lightbody. I thought you could only do that if you have under 20,000 miles. I’ll have about 25,000 when I’m due to exchange.

It has no adaptions fitted either.

With it being a common car, still available new, I don’t know if my reason (not being able to afford the AP) will be valid for the reason of looking for something to suit my needs.

                    Hi Gilders

Yes it should not be a problem, they will ask you if your existing vehicle still fits your needs and if it does they will ask you if you want to extend the lease, i think they are relaxing their rules a little on this for some reason.

I contacted Motability this week regarding the change of ours and I was asked if our existing vehicle suited our needs still which, unfortunately it does not as my wife who is the disabled one cannot drive it, so I explained this the agent said that was unfortunate as he could extend the lease for up to two years.

So I am guessing that Motability think that extending the lease may be more beneficial to clients rather than changing vehicles.

When you get your paperwork through, just give them a call to see what they can do for you.

I thought the figure was 15,000 miles as I’ve always just missed that by two or three thousand.

That said after three years with a car and new tech always in the pipeline and things that make disabled life just that little bit easier and I say this with the VW Electronic Handbrake and Auto Hold in mind that made me want the new Golf back then when it became a standard fit. Up to that point I thought I was more than happy with the car I had.

Roll on to the present and I’m spending big time (for me) on my next car in extra’s so the longer I keep it the better, unless something comes up that I feel will makes thing better for me next car.

Don’t mind waiting 5 months for the car to arrive if it’s the perfect car and if it turns out to be after 3 years I’d be very interested in exactly what the mileage has to be to get a two year extension.

                        Thanks for the info Lightbody.

It’s always nice to get a brand new car, so hopefully with the new MK8 golf coming out by the time I’m due to change, there might be some good APs on Golfs with similar spec and power as my current one.

If not then I’ll look at extending current lease.

I probably shouldn’t be looking ahead anyway…..I’ve just sent back my DLA to PIP claim form and from what I’ve been hearing, it looks like I’ll be knocked back and have to go through appeal process. I’m due my kidney transplant in about a month or so and could do without the stress.

                          Hi gilders

Hope your PIP claim goes through well for you.

Also hope your transplant happens without a hitch and you recover well from it.

Good luck with transplant gilders, hope you have a speedy recovery.

I’m sure there are plenty, probably a majority, of DLA – PIP claims that go through without a hitch – people tend not to write when things go well, only when they don’t. I hope yours goes through ok for you, the more evidence you submit the better the chance you have of a fair assessment is my opinion.

If you have a date for your transplant, be sure to tell them, or as soon as you get it, let them know… if possible by telephone, backed up by letter so you have evidence. Would hate for you to be called for a face-2-face and the dates collide.

Best of luck to you, and try not to stress.

                              Hi gilders

Hope your PIP claim goes through well for you.

Remember PIP is all about how things affect you and not simply what conditions you have.

Well supported evidence to back up your claim will always help.

                                Just to add @gilders

When sending your form back, you may wish to include Medical Evidence to support your case. Do not rely on Dwp to request more information so they can reach a decision. The onus is on you to provide this!

You can obtain your medical evidence from your GP or their Receptionist if you do not already have written evidence.
