Insurance claims

Apologies if this has been covered before.

      What’s RSA’s position on claims.

About a year ago my Seat got damaged in a B&Q car park, deep scrath and dent on rear wing so put in a claim.

Changed just over a month ago and after 3 weeks some arse hit rear near side while I was in cinema with my son and he noticed when we came out. No cctv or note on screen, it’s not structural but really unsightly as scratched and white paint missing down to black plastic underneath.

My car before the Seat, an Audi also got hit in Tesco carpark but got them and claimed on their insurance.

You’d think being in a disabled bay you’d be fairly safe.

Just wondering how many claims, however small before any backlash?

The way many drive these days I don’t think we’re safe anywhere. ?

Sounds like the damage to your car is what they call a “smart repair” and I had one on my front bumper that was my fault as I hit a low down out of sight picket fence in my grandsons new house while reversing into his drive, no sorry it wasn’t my fault, it was Motability fault for not providing front parking sensors. Isn’t that the way these day’s, blame everyone else but yourself. ?

Had the car checked by a family member who’s in the insurance repair game as an ex-panel beater and now an insurance assessor who told me its a smart repair that will cost about a £100 to fix. I was due to change the car within 3 months so left it as I could live with it for that time. Turned out my new car took longer to come than was expected so had the car nearly another year and a half before it was returned.

So to me its down to whether you can live with the unsightly damage bearing in mind your car won’t renewed for a few years yet. You could just keep stum and have a smart repair on it, your not suppose to but folk do, or go through RSA to get it fixed as its not a big or expensive repair and don’t think it would reflect on you.

With my one and only nasty scratch on my car when it was returned I still got the full good condition bonus.

I would suggest investing in a front and rear dashcam.

Don’t forget the insurance company is changing. It all depends on the type of claims, if they are all your fault for example, the insurance company might refuse to insure you due to risk, but as these are not your fault, yiu should be ok, but the advantage of a dashcam film would help show them they are not your fault.

A lorry decided to try and take my side off at a roundabout, then tried to say it was my fault. I sent RSA a copy of my dashcam and the lorry company settled.

            Thanks peeps.

I had front and rear dash cams on the Seat (haven’t got round to fitting in Citroën yet) but it didn’t help as they only work with ignition so wouldn’t have helped.

Not heard of a smart repair, if I can get it done for £200, let alone £100 I’ll do that but I had vision of 4 figure quote.

Really good place in town so I’ll see what they say, it us soul destroying when you do everything you can to look after the car and some idiot who can’t drive does the deed and doesn’t have the decency to own up.

Wonder if Leopard Tanks will come on the scheme ?

              Gary V,

you need a dashcam tgat has an inbuilt battery that auto switches on when the car is touched, like the Nextbase ones that have “parking mode”
