The grant team have suggested three possible cars, two of which I don’t think I will be able to get into.

      Cars suggested

Ssanyong Korando is only 1629 mm roof height, I couldn’t get in and out of the 3008 at 1624 mm

Nissan Qashqai is only 1635 mm roof height again I think it’s too low

Hyundai Tucson is a possibility at 1650 mm roof height can anyone share experience or advice?

These cars have been proposed because of boot size and height for a hoist to get my scooter in.

kona has a decent door height too. yes your best of those is the tuscon. kona has a smallish boot but with folding hoist and folding scooter it all fits with plenty room left. so you’d likely have loads more in tuscon as its a fair bit bigger

Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoist

@Lab as struth has said the Tucson has loads of room and in my opinion would be the better car. I have a Kona at the moment, lovely car which has served us well with trips to London, Cambridge and Wales from the East Riding of Yorkshire. Due to our my wifes circumstances changing needing a wheelchair plus oxygen wherever we go, the Kona is just too small so I am changing to the Tucson. I have driven the Hybrid and the Phev, I chose the Phev Ultimate as I found it the more comfortable drive with the leather and electric seats. I was fortunate to be able to order it before the AP went crazy. Hopefully I should be getting it at the end of this month.  There is also a good Tucson forum to go on called Hyundai Tucson UK which has lots of info. Any questions you may have I will try and answer. Also the waiting time at the moment depending on which version you go for is from 6 to 8 months.

When we were looking at cars last year we found that the stated height of the car was misleading when it came to accessibility.  Taller cars were not necessarily easier to get in and out of.  Cill height (and width), seat height, door opening height (and shape) were more important.  I suggest trying out the cars recommended. And others of course. You might be surprised that the least likely is the best.

Thanks for the replies and advice, appreciated.

The nearest dealer for Ssanyong is over 16 miles away, which would cause problems for servicing or repairs.

Not even sure if the Hyundai Tucson will be suitable as just seen it has an organ style accelerator pedal, my wife has issues with her right foot she lacks flexibility, I don’t think she will be able to use that type of pedal.

The lack of choice is due to having a hoist fitted, for now I can get by without one, but the grant manager is trying to make sure the car is future-proof, which I understand.

As someone else suggested might worth trying them you might be surprised.

My wife has the same issue with bellow type accelerator pedals, which tends to rule out many possibilities, she also needs a hoist for her motorisied wheel chair.

My wife settled on a MG HS  which ticked all the boxes and has a ‘reasonable’  AP though reading posts on here it would seem MG are no longer taking orders so it will probably end up being removed from the scheme like so many others.

The chioce is limited at the moment and apart from the vehicles you mention the Grandland maybe worth a look it has a ‘low’ AP or maybe a Duster, it will as always depend on your indivdual needs as to what suits.
