Gloves or No Gloves?

Next car will be a diesel, thus wondered how many wear gloves when filling up, and for those that do, do you rely on gloves being available at the pump or do you buy your own?

I’ve not seen the need for them when filling up with petrol, but read it can be advisable for diesel.

Driven diesel 15 years never done it yet, I’ve only needed them if using HGV pumps or if somebody overshoots.

I always use gloves when filling my Pug 5008. I buy them from Ebay as you never know if the forecourt has them. The next time you eat a butty after filling up with diesel will be your last, I promise you.

I have driven diesels for a total of 12 years Trev, neither me nor my PA’s have ever found the need to use gloves.

I find it’s quicker (and lazier) to just grab a paper towel and pinch it around the handle. Doubles as a quick drip clean up if needed from the paint also.

Always use gloves for filling diesel as it really stinks and its difficult to get the smell off even after washing. I dont have my own gloves and always fill up up at the same station who always have gloves available

Did you ever check the soles of your shoes?

I drove diesel Motability cars for 6 years and never used the gloves at the pumps because one of my two disabilities is having only one hand to use, I’ve got two hands but only one of them wants to lift a finger to help. LoL

Generally I always found the pumps to be kept clean, in supermarket outlets anyway and rarely had the smell of diesel on my hands after filling but when it did smell, yes, it stinks.

Been driving a diesel for 9 years now, hardly ever bother with gloves and fill up to the brim every week.

Most forecourts are clean, occasionally get a dirty pump, but clearly not often enough to make me seek out the gloves. If/when I do, I use the forecourts own or a bit of towel if they are nowhere to be seen.

Invest in some baby wipes (magical things, can clean anything off anything…inc. diesel off hands).

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

                          Cheers people,

So perhaps forecourts are cleaner than they were and gloves are no longer a necessity like they perhaps were in the past.

Must admit the Tesco one i use seems to be always clean, will have to make a point of looking at the diesel pumps and availability of gloves/towels next time i’m there as that’s where i refuel 90% of the time.

Wet wipes i keep in the boot anyhow, so will always have them on hand if needed.

                          Thanks again
