Hi
Can anyone help me understand this
I’ve applied for a electric car and am eligible for the free home charger with OHME. I submitted the online survey and placed an order. Now I recieved an email saying “I may be entitled OZEV grant” now GOV.UK are emailing me to apply for it up to £350. But my understanding is that motability pay for the charger, I’m so confused does this mean motability won’t be paying?
Any help would be appreciated, many thanks

Motability will try to save as much as possible. Applying for the grant gets them the money to save.
It’s still worth noting the install is what they classify a ’standard’ install. That’s 15 metres of cable a hole in one wall, breaker box near the fuse box and attach charger to the wall. They will want proof that there’s a drive for the car and pictures of your fuse box to be sure everything’s good to go.

It could be a scam. I seem to be getting loads of scam texts and voicemails at present about all sorts of things, including grants. Just let Motability sort it.

The £350 OZEV grant is only applicable if you own and live in a flat or rent a residential property and not to private home owners!
Motability pay for a standard install , as explained by Mark above however, installation companies are getting crafty and try to claim on most properties and I doubt, it is given back to Motability once claimed!
It’s no skin of Motability nose if you say no to the grant, as you will still get a standard install offered by Motability.

the breaker for our charger is outside near the electric meter box, they didn’t put anything inside the property and didn’t touch our fuse/trip box

August 20, 2025 at 3:59 pm #311637Random question for a non EV owning luddite: if your charger is on the wall of your ground floor flat, what’s to stop anyone else using it? Is there a cut off inside your property? Or is it controlled by an app of some kind?

yes in the app you can set it to authorise each charge
August 20, 2025 at 5:49 pm #311645It depends on the charger, some need a pin given to unlock the port cover, most can be set to require authorisation from the app.

Phew! I’d hate to think that if I did ever get an EV, my charger would be available to all and sundry!
