      Hi All Again ,

I’m so confused what to do ,

I like the electric cars but I live in a house that my drive is next to Mt neighbours house so I wouldn’t be able to have a charger put in ,

“Would motarbility allow me to have one put in when I move house” ?

“I live rurally and the nearest fast charger place is 16 miles away ,

And it’s not a BP garage so I wouldn’t get any discount,  the guy said it cost “£30 to charge it from 20% to 60% on a 150kwh charger”

Considering the miles I do I doubt I’d be better off financially with an electric car ,

And the ONLY ones in my price budget I can get before January with petrol hybrid is

Renault arkana 2 weeks (mixed reviews regarding MPG)

I test drove the Nissan e power but then he said I’d have to pay £2k as well as the £750 from motarbility it’s a lot before Christmas,

Every other petrol hybrid and diesel cars have said they would build it and id be looking at 18-24 weeks

        Hi tbh

Its seems your housing situation is the main barrier

Maybe think about going Electric once you able to move and able to get a home charger fitted

I have an EV only because Im able to home charge my mileage is only 7/8000 pa and mostly urban miles so an EV ticks all my boxes

Not being much help Im afraid

I Agree, the housing situation is your biggest barrier.  I’m sure if you’ve a move planned then Motability would wait but I doubt they’d hold the install for ever.   So, do you have plans to move house in the very near future?

The available savings come mainly from the ability to charge either at home or at a workplace on a discounted tariff.  Unfortunately pretty much all the free charging opportunities have gone as the cost of electricity sky rocketed.  There may be some in car parks if you’re lucky but how often would you go there before you count that as part of your charging routine.

Some manufacturers will have their own discounted schemes which may open up your opportunities but the general rule is that rapid charging (50kWh +) will make EV ownership as expensive per mile or, potentially more expensive, than a decently economical petrol car.

Agree with others, you current housing situation is your biggest barrier. You menton about moving house, when are you expecting this to happen. If it’s within 3 months time for example, you could speak with Motability and ask them to delay installing the charger untill you have moved. The other thing to think about is the delivery time for your new vehicle, may well concide with you moving home. The only other option is to extend your current lease untill you move home, before ordering an EV.

If you plans are to move house withing the next 12 to 18 months, you could again extend your current lease or consider a hybrid as you next car.

Hi Clare, I am a bit confused about your problem and you having to move house (yet again ?), as you told us on the 18th November 2023, that you had just moved house, which had put you in a thousand pound debt.

Are you not happy there and need to move again, I think as you are moving apparently soon, you may be better asking our opinion once you have moved (yet again) and are able to describe your then situation, which will have hopefully improved your ability to get in a charger, if you then so wish to go for an electric car.

As you have paid the £250 early termination, you are free to order anytime and if you have not ordered by February  (as your current contract runs out in May) you may be able to get your £250 early termination payment back.

Yeah this house I moved into was a just to get to England from wales ,

I’m trying to move closer to family ,

Which could take a year ,

Thank you all for your replies ,

I’ve thought about it and I’ve gone for the citeoen c4 max diesel and the AP was £1295 (it did say it was £1395 on the motarbility site) but they said on there screen it was a £100 cheaper)

And I had a letter through saying I’ve been accepted and that I just have to pay the balance of £545 which is a relief and with it being a diesel car , I won’t have to worry about MPG ,

They also said they would try and see what was in stock so I can get it as early as possible , as they did have a note on there system saying they weren’t going to be building anymore , (not sure if that’s true or not)

                Thanks again all
