Unfortunately it’s not going to happen. The cheapest diesel car is £3395. And I believe will only get worse I’m afraid.

If you’re on PIP or DLA cheapest is the Citroen Berlingo LCV Max, £2,795

If you’re on WPMS it’s £1.453 for the same car.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Thank you for your reply. How long does a person keep the vehicle once the AP is paid? Are all vehicles leased for the same amount of time ? I can’t afford that kind of money absolutely no chance, I had no idea about AP before this.

            Thank you

The lease is 3 years. Some are able to extend by a further 2 years at the end, depending on your cars mileage and if you have any adaptations or not for disability. (I was told I could not extend my lease as I had over 20,000 miles on mine – 27,000 – however I was able to extend via my Motability online account without questions)

Depending on the size of the car you need, I would widen my search criteria to include both petrol and hybrid, as this would open the window for a greater choice in the low price bracket. The money you save on AP agains’t having a diesel can be put towards petrol and may work out cheaper in the long run for you, based on the number of miles you do.

It sounds like your looking for your first car on the scheme? If that is the case you will be entitled to a one off New Vehicle Payment (NVP) of £750, which you could put towards the AP.

I’d forget diesel now it’s too complicated with dpf and adblue plus the AP costs. A good petrol or hybrid will return easily as good economy as diesel now.

Depends on size needed but you can get a 48v hybrid Fiat 600 petrol for £499 well under the £750 new car payment so net cost to you is still nothing. That does nearly 60mpg.

Just do what a lot of people do, when they get their vehicle, put cash away for the next AP in 3 years time.

But if ICE is what you want, as suggested get something that fits your needs. But you will have to save up for the next lease and that will be an EV.

Bearing in mind, it used to cost me £40 to fill the petrol tank from half to full on my ICE car. With a home charger it costs me £2.80 to half fill EV with electricity. Both had similar range, only 20 miles or so difference

I have an EV and would never go back to an ICE car. Its so much cheaper to run.
