Colin's own Tiguan Thread

Thought I’d stick up a new thread to avoid re-re-re-re-hijacking the other Tiguan threads, and as a bonus, you can never have too many Tiguan threads, right?

Got my R-Line today, about 10 days after the original collection arrangement, no explanation but I got it so happy enough.  First two thoughts are a little on the negative side to be honest. The car FEELS a lot smaller than the Volvo despite only being slightly smaller mathematically but time and adjustments to seating etc. will no doubt have an effect on that – I pretty much got in the car and drove off without adjusting anything lol.
The second is that there is a BIG difference in the level of “luxury feel” – there’s not a single thing about the Tiguan which I don’t like but coming from the Volvo there’s no denying it doesn’t feel as premium. Having said that, the Volvo had a list price close to £50k and the Tiguan a little over £30k so its absolutely understandable – there’s no way the Volvo is £15k more luxurious than the Tiguan, that much is for sure.

There was a little theatrics in the dealer, car all covered up and the guy asked if I wanted to pull off the sheet – wet blanket me said something along the lines of “If it was MINE I might be tempted but it’s a long term loan at the end of the day” lol

Every bit as good looking as expected once the sheet was off, don’t have loads of pics, just a quick one as I didn’t want to look an idiot running around the car with the phone…

I’m going to reply to this thread over the next day or so as I fit the extras I have bought – this way the other people thinking about what to buy or not buy can get a before and after of each item so they can make a more informed decision…

First impressions are positive, especially on the MPG front – the Volvo deliberately teased me on the way to the dealer, lighting up the E symbol which means you’re getting really good economy compared to recently, but the truth was it was still low 30’s. Bearing in mind I’ve done little more than drive home from the dealer and then a quick school run to pick up our 7-year-old, the Tiguan is already showing 37 and I’ve read in several places I can expect that to improve once the engine has a few hundred miles of running in done…

Had a bit more success with another little tweak. I like to be able to see my phone when I’m driving, at least until I’m more confident about the Android Auto integration so I bought a short(ish) 50cm cable and a Scosche magicmount vent unit. I’ve used the magicmount for years but previously it was on a windscreen mount – this time I decided I wanted it NOT to block ANY of my view so went with the vent fitting.

I’m not organised enough to have TWO phones or a phone and a camera in the car and calling the wife out in THAT wind to take a photo wouldn’t have gone down well lol, so I’ll try to get a pic of it all installed tomorrow.  Used a 50cm cable from ebay, and if I’m honest, I’ll probably go back and buy an all-black one as the red/black kinda stands out, along with a few little sticky clips originally for PURE systems (again ebay but easy to find – I imagine a search for PURE clips will bring it up quickly enough).

The clips aren’t strictly NEEDED but it keeps the cable out of the way and means it’s always right where I need it as opposed to digging for it every time and then having to make sure the cable doesn’t get in the way of the gear shifter etc.

I didn’t need the plate which comes with the mount as my phone already has one installed from the old windscreen mount I used in the Volvo but it all sits nicely and completely unobtrusive. OK, so technically I lost 1/3 of an air vent but not concerned about that.

I just use the built in gear and a usb dongle 4 tunes, for once the nav is awesome with the 3 year connected TomTom subscription and 3D mapping with live traffic & cams.

Front HEKO’s fitted both sides with folding mirrors temporarily disabled – gave up on the rears as I can’t get the windows to close and can’t stand long enough to fight with them

On balance, I can’t really recommend these as the front need modifying or the folding mirrors turned off, and the rears are being a real pain. Shame really as I DO like the way they look.

            AFTER:

Also had a set of rubber mats delivered today but I don’t think you need to see how a black mat looks in the car so might skip that “upgrade” before and after lol

Same problem with the dealer ones except they’re not tinted like the Heko’s and seem cheaper.

Just trim them down and refit and you get your folding mirrors back, I’ve had to do it on a few cars inc some for friends who bought dealer ones and it looks right once they’re back on.
