Got a surprise today after an 8month wait got a call saying car has arrived at dealership was supposed to be a few months ago anyway I had been contacting them for updates and only last week they said only thing they can tell me is they won’t know anything until it actually arrives with them so I contented myself by thinking at least it will be a 24plate but no he said it’s got to be out for end of month or it will be given to someone else because of car shortages I know he’s talking BS won’t be using this dealership again.

What car is it?
I agree he’s talking BS! Personally I would probably call his bluff and back him into a corner.
Or speak with the sales manager saying you want it on a 24 plate and see no reason for it not to be, given we would be that close one the vehicle has gone through the PDI.
Anyway Enjoy 🙂
February 15, 2024 at 5:47 pm #258489Sportage gt line s . I should really have cancelled after numerous failed attempts at getting them to put through at lower AP so cannot be bothered having anymore discussions with them and I’ll just think if it had been ready on date specified it would have been a 73plate.
February 15, 2024 at 5:57 pm #258490I appreciate you may be holding out for March registration but the salesman may not be talking bs.
When I lived in England, I bought many a car month before registration as dealers were offering better discounts because so many people were holding on a few weeks to get the new registration. I preferred the discount as I have a private registration I put on every car so it was irrelevant! If you suddenly were offered a car two months early it could be that it is not the car you were waiting on but another that has become free and the dealer is scrambling around to get it registered. If you don’t take it then he might discount it to someone else.

Anyway Enjoy ?Seriously does it really matter, they don’t belong to us so we have no interest in resale value. Its great the car is here, grab it and enjoy it as soon as possible

It wouldn’t matter in the slightest to me, for reasons you stated but, it very much matters to quite a few on here, including the op who was hoping for it to be a 24 plate. after waiting so long!
February 15, 2024 at 6:32 pm #258494As I stated I’m not to bothered about plate it’s the fact I think he is BS me and also the fact he told me on numerous occasions he could not alter the AP which has gone down over £600.

The Sportage is a nice car especially the GTS, with all its kit. Just enyoy it going forward, bad memories of the dealer will soon fade into the background 🙂
February 15, 2024 at 6:44 pm #258496If number plate means so much to you buy a private reg . It’s totally meaningless and will still be the same car 73 or 24 reg. I would be more annoyed by the change in AP rather than the number plate.
February 15, 2024 at 7:13 pm #258500It is not number plate snobbery it’s the fact he wouldn’t change AP then couldn’t wait an extra week to register car just feel they where absolutely useless. It will be ready to pick-up on the 23rd. Also forgot to add not 1 update in whole of 8 month wait.
February 15, 2024 at 8:22 pm #258518Name and shame so the dealer is avoided in future
February 15, 2024 at 9:25 pm #258536@Robert88 I’m with @bobscot1 in that you should have been on at them to change the AP, otherwise it is just reg snobbery to care what it says on the plates.
I’d just be desperate to get my new car after all the waiting, you need to pick it up and enjoy it and give the garage a poor score on their feedback
February 15, 2024 at 9:43 pm #258540As I stated they refused to reduce AP on numerous occasions I should have cancelled but after waiting so long didn’t want another long wait as you say I’ll put it out of my mind and enjoy car.

Definitely the right thing, enjoy it an move on 🙂
February 16, 2024 at 10:51 am #258574As far as reg plates go I collected my current car 4 day’s before the 23 plate started as it avoids going to the showroom on a day when loads of others are there, not good for we disabled drivers, so had a nice quite handover.
