Recently had a test drive of a iX1.

Loved it. Easy to get in and out of.

      Very easy to drive.

      Spacious

      Power boot

Reasonable delivery times, quoted March 24

Was ready to place the order for iX1 20 M Sport

Portimao Blue and Sun Protection Glass

Massive AP, over £5,800, but thought I would keep it for 4-5 years.

Was just about to push the button, then realised.

A vehicle with a £45,000 list price and it doesn’t even come with power folding mirrors.

Honestly, couldn’t believe it, I need those for going in and out of the garage where the charger is.

BMW wanted another £1680 for the Tech Pack.

      Almost £7.5k advance payment, wow.

      What do others think?

@Debs I’m amazed that they’ve deleted power fold mirrors. That’s really poor. I had the more powerful iX1 30e for a day and have to say that I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as our current (2021) 2.0i petrol X1. I’ve had loads of BMWs and love them, but in some respects I think they are going backwards in quite a few areas. I didn’t find the latest iDrive to be as user friendly as the version we have. The removal of the rotary controller and favourites buttons (both of which I use all the time) is just plain stupid IMHO. They were both features that made BMWs iDrive class leading. In all honesty, the only improvement that I found over the previous version is the fact that they have now added AutoHold, which was a glaring omission on the previous version and remains the only thing that irritates me about our current car.

I agree with you, just trying to force us to purchase the packs at extra cost.

I didn’t realise the iDrive controller had been removed until I went for the test drive. A backward step definitely, everything is touch screen or voice activated on the iX1.

I must admit, the auto hold was brilliant. Not sure about the range though, I think BMW quote 270 miles approx. but it looked as if I was only returning about 210-220, but it was quite cold and I know this has an impact on range

It seems as though you have to treat the range figures on all EVs with quite a big pinch of salt, and the iX1 is no exception. The one I had was 98% charged and the range had dropped 100 miles when I returned it after driving just 50 miles.

BMW quote 268 – 296 miles for the edrive20. The models with the larger wheels like the M Sport, the lower range applies during optimal conditions.

Its a shame all iX1’s are fitted with a relatively small 65kW battery on all models. In comparison the Audi E-Tron 45 has a 77kW useable battery and Audi’s aclaimed 330 odd miles and much better torque. Just a shame about the interior!
