Just doing a quick calculation and since September 1st if we still had our wonderful Seat Alhambra we would have spent £1751 on Diesel but we have our mediocre rattle ridden Vivaro that has saved us just over £1500 in 8 months costing £149 to run to this point So before you ditch your Vivaro electric or any other electric vehicle as I believe many are because of problems charging range etc etc. remember over 3 years this could be a 5k saving. As there is little on offer sometimes it’s worth the suffering for a huge saving. Plus it’s not that bad really

Given Motability is a one payment covers everything but fuel arrangement and we all have to make savings wherever possible, switching from electric back to any combustion engine does seem counterproductive.  It’s good to see figures from other people as my driving requirements have changed substantially since moving to pure electric, and even further from when I last had diesel so the comparison for me is impossible.

Indeed, my mileage has halved since returning to work as I can now work from home – it would be even less, but my wife now wants a lift to work if I am at home instead of taking the bus, so that adds 30 miles a day, sometimes more if she wants or needs collecting as well.

My electric costs are about 1/4 of my previous diesel, so every mile is a saving. Of course, the Soul is not as large nor as capable as the S-Max, but then, in the S-Max, like many other large cars, the diesel was no longer available and it has dropped off the scheme altogether. Must say the C5X looks tempting, but no change for me for two years yet, so who knows what will be around by then or how high the AP’s will have gone!

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

On current costs and based on our current mileage, around 55000 miles over three years we’ll save around £10000.

This saving is due to having a home charger and currently having cheap overnight charging and free charging the days I’m in work, if I was using our local charger at 50p ish per kWh the saving would be around £3000.

I bet in years to come well all look back and say how cheap it was to drive a petrol and diesel car, electric is only going one way in cost and at some point the government is going to introduce some tax per mile.

Certainly happy with our ev now

Nearly 3 years into my I3s 46000 miles. Estimated electricity cost £1500.

Running same mileage through a fuel calculator for previous car XC60 D5 gives diesel cost of £6800.

Based on those savings alone, and this is for me and my circumstances I can’t see me going back to fossil fuels.
