Assisted parking

      Hi all,

My contract is up for renewal shortly, so I am looking for my next car. I have been looking at technology in the car to see how it can be of help to me.

I have limited movement in my upper half, and as such, parallel parking etc has always been an issue. I, however, notice that some cars now come with assisted parking, where all you need to do is cover the brake and the car will steer and move in to a space on its own.

This would be ideal for me!

However, having looked at many cars, that sort of information is not front and centre.

I have noticed the VW ID4 has this feature, but I did wonder if any other cars on the scheme had this too? Ideal world, my next car would be EV again.

      Any suggestions would be welcome

      Thanks

I have that in my VW Tiguan (Park Assist) however unfortunately I’ve never used it so can’t tell how I would get on.

80% of the time I park in Blue Badge parking spaces that have the extra width and find how park assist works is just too much trouble as you still have to do the gear changing and for myself parallel parking has never been a problem and more so with sensors front and back and I can park up and be done by the time I’ve figured out what button to press.

If it was something you need to use all the time then I’m sure it would become second nature and really would be helpful.

Sorry I can’t be much more help than that and one day I will test the system to find out just how easy it is. 😊

I have an ID3 with this feature. It takes too long or I’m not quick enough. I’ve had it on cars before and never found it satisfactory. Like @ChrisK I use blue badge parking usually.

I have used the memory parking, whereby the ID3 can save a manoeuvre and repeat again and again. That function I find handy as I reverse into my driveway between the gate posts.

I know the Ioniq 6 comes with it and plenty of others too, I guess the only way to know for sure is to go through the specifications of every car ⏳️🤷‍♂️

I’ve had it on previous cars and used it once just to see how it was… far too slow for me but I can see it being useful for people who have difficulty parking.

I do use my blue badge for when I am out and about at shops and where BB spaces are, but sometimes if visiting friends or family I need to park in a pay and display place, which is normally parallel parking.

I also have this on my Tiguan, it is very good I use it all the time not only will it park in a space you thought the car would not fit, it will also get you out of the same space. It can also reverse into a parking space in a car park perfectly between the lines. See a space indicator on left or right, press the button, into reverse and the car parks itself. Once you have used it a couple of times it is very simple to use.

This feature is fitted to a lot of cars these days, not just EVs. Our 2021 BMW X1 had it as standard, as did our previous 2018 VW Tiguan. As long as you have an auto it’s dead easy to use, but I must confess that I rarely use it!

The ioniq 5 ultimate with tech pack has this, but with a really great feature, when you push the button, it asks you if you want to do it in car or remotely (covers both bay types) and you get out, hold the fob button down and it parks with noone in the car
