We ordered a Volvo xc40 on 29th August at an advance payment of £3,999.Then when looking on mobility site today noticed that the advance payment has dropped to £1,999. That’s a difference of a whopping £1,400.Could I get it at the lower price or would I be made to pay the higher price. What would happen if when the dealer rings me to collect the car and pay the advance payment I told them I couldn’t have it as I have not got the money anymore.Ignore the £3,999 it was £3,400 what a numpty am I lol.

@sjp1163 did I miss something cause it looks like a £2,000 difference not £1,400 🤔

It’s a 5 minute job for the dealer to ‘cancel’ the order on the Motability system and re order at the new lower AP. They aren’t cancelling the actual order (which is between the dealer and manufacturer), it’s just an admin task, so it shouldn’t affect your delivery time and the dealer loses nothing as they get the same handling fee regardless of the AP that you pay.

The vast majority of dealers will do this without question (my previous BMW dealer did it without me even asking them to when the AP dropped just £150 – saying that it was better in my pocket than Motability Operations – can’t argue with that)! If the dealer is an a#se, as sadly some Volvo dealerships can be, simply say you want to cancel the order. If they still don’t agree to amend, tell them cancel the order and then immediately re order (at a different dealership ideally, just to teach the bad one a lesson). As you only ordered a few weeks ago the absolute worst case scenario is that you get your new car a month later, but for a £1,400 saving that’s surely worth it!

My thoughts were I’m off to Arnold Clark to save £1000, with an hour before pick up, However Nathaniel’s sorted me right out…
