a warning appeared on my dash “low air pressure” went to my local petrol station and they have removed the air machine which cost 40 pence for enough air to check all five of your tyres.
Went on a search and found one l only had a tenner on me so went into the shop to get change. I asked for change and then said “how much is it anyway” £1 she said I said “aye right” and she said “no it is £1, just went up from 60 pence last week.
I couldn’t believe it £1 for some air, day light robbery.

72 dudesIf you have a Sainsbury’s petrol station anywhere near, the air machines are still free.
I work at one part time and we’re the only petrol station in town with free air.
Better invest in a small digital tyre inflator Brydo, I’ve got a Ring one which is excellent.
There’s often a queue for the one at work!

jamesgThat would have made you cry ,but you did your bit for the environment when you set all them moths free opening your wallet . Did they allow you to get £ 9 worth of petrol ?

ThargHave found the same problem.Even when I find a machine it’s too complicated to work. All I want is an air-line, a gauge and a go-button that works when I put money in. I don’t want a load of digital displays, a hidden slot for money and no instructions. After losing a few quid by putting coin in at wrong time, I just gave up using ’em. Have a nice old footpump with accurate gauge which travels in the boot. Tricky to use with wonky leg but I get there.

SusanAgree with file, your car will have an air compressor. If it’s not under the boot floor then check under the seats or check your owners manual for the location.

jamesgWas she wearing a mask when you were robbed. Does anybody no if the air pressure goes up or down when car is been driven ?

The tyre pressure will change as you drive. Driving puts heat into your tyres which raises the air pressure in the tyre.

BrydoOne thing I did notice, when trying to find the correct pressure for the tyre, is that the pressure should be adjusted if you have additional weight in the back. Now who is going to pay a pound to put more air in the back tyres before a heavily loaded journey then another pound to put the pressure back to normal after the journey, not me lol.
July 25, 2020 at 11:00 am #120275I would only adjust the rear tyre pressure if towing something like a caravan or heavy trailer.

BrydoThe diagram shows adults in the back seats joss but I have never adjusted tyre pressure EVER and I don’t intend to.

I have one of those ring tyre compressors excellent reliable bit of kit had mine for over 4 or so years.
Tyre pressure to only be checked when cold travelling to the garage will give you a false reading, I must admit I am a bit over the top, I set the compressor to 2 or 3 psi higher than required, I pump up the tyres then let them settle for a few minutes, I then check them with an accurate digital pressure gauge and let the down slightly to the required pressure.
The manufacture recommend running at a slight higher temperate for high speed and towing still help to reduce the tyre temperature at speed, low pressure actual cause the tyres to overheat and blow out.
I have a device called a Tyrepal is measures and monitors the tyre pressures and temperatures as you our driving along ( it cost about £100), the valve caps are replace with sensors, they are mainly use by trucks, caravaner’s etc. You car get a kit for you car if required.
We set our caravan tyre pressures at 64 psi normally these will increase to 72 -74 psi and 20 -24 degrees C, on a very hot day they can go as high as 80 psi and 30 or so degrees C, this is well within manufactures tolerances. if we run the tyre at 61 psi we notice they will run at slightly higher temperature’s
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

BrydoMitch you don’t know the half of it, I can judge the exact amount of water to go in the kettle for two cups of tea.
Its a superpower lol.

72 dudes@Brydo, not sure if you were being sarcastic but you’ll find you can check your tyre pressures or deflate them without putting any money in the machine.
Only requires the money to inflate, but not at Sainsbury’s ?
July 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm #120295
BrydoDidn’t know that dudes.
The fact is we’ve had the car for five years and have only put air in the tyres a few times so its not going to break the bank but £1 will get you three bags of kiddies sweets in scotmid so its not to be sniffed at lol.

File28My sons kawasaki has nitrogen filled tyres so the heat doesn’t affect the pressure
July 25, 2020 at 4:23 pm #120315For a £1 our local machine you can fill you windscreen wash up as well as air, it’s a military operation trying to do it before the beeper goes off, saves having to carry screenwash around though.
