I’ve read somewhere that EV drivers will have to report their annual mileage and a charge will be made on that. Any discrepancies will be picked up at the 3 year stage at MOT time, and a bill or refund issued.
If 3p per mile is added, that would make the cost of our BMW between 4.8p and 5.3p per mile, depending on weather.
A petrol powered car averaging 40 MPG costs 15p per mile to run by comparison.
Of course, as I’ve always said, if you can’t charge cheaply at home FORGET AN EV. The extra 3p per mile will be even more of a disincentive. I’ve recently seen chargers on the A1 costing £0.97 per kWh, which is absolute highway robbery.
