Does that mean it’s taken the best of the black box and made it into an app with extras – yes this is me trying to understand – not trying to be clever
There is a telematics device fitted to the windscreen of the scheme car (black box) however, the privacy policy (How long we keep your personal data and the journey data) posted numerous times, specifically states “We will collect, process and retain your personal and journey data including instances where
you may be a passenger in another vehicle or using another form of transport” which, I assume uses the smartphones built in accelerometer, which measusers axis across “XYZ”, with “X” measuring – & + pitch, “Y” – & + roll and “Z” – & + yaw, which are sampled multiple times per second. This can build u a picture of acceleration, speed, how fast you go around a bend and braking. The app will have permission to use the phones accelerometer once it’s downloaded. In my view it is wrong to monitor an under 30, along with their named drivers, drving or as a passenger in another vehicle, that sits outside the Motability scheme!
Facebook Q&A The Telematics device fitted to the windscreen, will also monitor screen time, even if that is mirroring through AA, CP or if a child is using mum, dads phone to watch a video on a long drive. Equally if you are use ACC or yourself needs to brake due to a car in front suddenly breaking, it is recorded. Motability’s response is basically chat to DLM!
There’s quite a few comments appearing on Facebook, thats worth a read through.
