Yes most of the social tariffs are compromised by slower speeds etc but if its all you need but 75Mbps in a house of 4 adults and 2 teenagers isn’t as generous as it sounds. I can’t believe i’m typing that considering my entire house was on 512Kbit ADSL in 2001 as I was the second house in Norwich city exchange to get ADSL, I had 2 engineers to install it as they were still training and all you got was a lousy USB “frog” no routers and now i’m sitting here saying 150Mbps split between a household might not do. FWIW that 512Kbit ADSL line cost me £249 install and £49.99 a month absolutely bananas how far things have come in 20 odd years
Also just watch out for the length of contract and that a lot of ISPs now expect their hardware back if you leave or they will bill you for it. I’d have thought a social tariff would be fairer as a rolling 30 day contract not 12 or 24 months tying those who may be in financial difficulties to a 2 year contract and calling it a social tariff should be a crime!!!! Although Thinkbroadband has Now’s 36Mbps tariff on a 1 month contract for £20 a month but for £3 more with Sky you’d get 150Mbps on 1 month so the Now “deal” not great value IMHO
Also that uswitch site is often wrong, for example there’s no FTTP listed for me and on top that 75Mbps “average” would be a pathetic and below USO 3Mbps here without using FTTP as the cabinet is on the other side of the village. They only list FTTC which would be under the USO now and the only list Now as the only ISP doing a social tariff here. I am pretty pleased with 1.8Gbps inc router and wifi point with wifi 7 for £60 a month admitedly for 2 years but we aint going anywhere (hopefully lol). Oh and we get huge discount on the 4 mobile phone lines too inc unlimited data via EE. I hooked it all up to test before we move and my phone connected at 2400Mbps thats absolutely nuts. I still remember going to GP surgeries when they were either running dump terminals over vast serial networks or at best using 100Mbps hubs (not switches) and it wasn’t all that long ago either in late 90’s early 2000’s. Oh for the days of super expensive BT kilostream 64k leased lines, they cost so much money and were dog poo too
