Ah right lol. Declan the best way is to look at your miles per kilowatt and multiply by the battery capacity. 3.8 mpkw x 73 (battery capacity) = 278 miles of range. 3.3 mpkw x 73 = 241 miles of range. The 3.3 really does sound like it’s weather/time of year related. Wipers, lights, heating, demisting etc. I’d say that’s about right for a car this size. As others have said. The GOM is and indicator only and can be very unreliable. It will come to you soon enough. I’ve run both cars from 100% to near zero so I know what’s in reserve and the Kona was similar to the e3008. When range digits disappear and it’s just bars, I can get 12 mile of driving at around 60mph, when turtle mode kicks in I can get around 2 mile of speeds no higher than 50, then after about 2 miles I can get at least 1 mile no higher than 25mph. That’s when I thought I’ll not push it too far and charged it up. That is with with everything off that can be off. I only done this so I know if I get caught out then I know what’s in reserve and will get me to either a charger or home to charge.
Crikey des, I’d never be so brave as to run the car down to anywhere near zero! I have decided that my minimum buffer is 20%, to take account of any unforseen problems, like roadworks, detours etc. Also, I’m conscious that I probably couldn’t recover an 80% battery capacity from there on an overnight charge, which is critical to me at the moment as my MIL is very ill in Antrim Hospital and we have to ensure that we have enough juice to make the twice daily 50 miles round trips (and desperately hoping not to have to make a 3rd!).
I understand the reasoning that 3.8 mpkw x 73 (battery capacity) = 278 miles of range. However, in the early days when I was averaging 3.9 mpkw I ran it down to 30% battery I think, and estimated that I was gonna get about 240 ish miles at best. I would bite your hand off to get even 200 miles now!
Watching the rapid drop in battery percentage scares me. The 46% with 90 miles showing on the gauge the other day would not leave me confident of making a 50 mile trip, seeing how erratic the figures have been.
The wife is at the hospital now and we will be going again this evening. Then I’ll top up to 100% overnight and start another mileage test, documenting the results after each drive to see what’s happening.
Thanks for the replies, guys.
