I made a decision to switch to an EV even though I no longer have access to a home charger on a regular basis. My mileage is minimal and I’m happy to use a ‘fast charger’ as and when necessary. I know that ‘sensibly’ other choices such as self charging hybrid would be cheaper.
Any reason you can’t get Ohme charger fitted?
I had a Pod Point home charger fitted at my house in 2021 for my (then) new 3008 hybrid, but I now spend most of my time 25 miles away living with one of my sons and his large family. It keeps me happy as it’s in a totally beautiful location and I love having six other family members (soon to be seven)to socialise with, as well as daily views out of my annex windows to die for.
I could take a 50 mile round trip to charge at my old house (where my youngest son and daughter in law and grandson now live) but as it’s only a 7.5 kw charger it would take far too long.
My son’s house in the Malvern Hills is almost 100 years old and is a large three story affair halfway up a 1000 foot plus hill. The driveway is separated and above the house at road level with a large beautifully landscaped and sloped front garden to navigate to and from my car (I now have to “phone home” to get someone to come up to steady me on the steps for safety’s sake after taking a few painful tumbles).
The extra considerable cost added to the standard installation wouldn’t be cost effective.
My current annual mileage is approx 3,500 miles per annum, and even with ‘new car syndrome’ will not top 5000 in the first year.
