Apparently I need a trench if I want the cable to go under two paving slabs at my front door. It’s about two feet. The total cable run is 6m. Quote – £754! It’s going over the front door instead.
Have you asked for an itemised quote, with a full breakdown of costs. If not do it.
There is no need to lift slabs to get the cable past the front door. Neither is there a need to go over the door, which would still require at least some metal banding or more precisely ICS cable fixings to meet reg 521.10.202
Fixing the cable tight up under the door cill using ICS clips or equivulent, would also me reg 521.10.202 and make for a neater install!
Regulation 521.10.202 basically means that wiring systems need to be supported in such a way they they won’t be liable to premature collapse in the evebt of a fire. It follows on from a regulation about 15yrs ago after several tragedies where firemen were injured or killed from entanglement of cables during a fire. Metalic cable clips are essesntial under note 3 and 4 of the regulation.
