8k and give the car back 3 years later, no thanks.

I get where you are coming from, but it’s important not to look at the AP in isolation as it’s only one part of the equation, and not the biggest part. Somebody getting a £20k runabout with nil AP on the scheme is paying £12k and handing it back after 3 years. Thats 60% of the price of buying the car (more once you factor in the discount you could negotiate). To me, that’s not sensible, yet thousands do so happily.

When you start getting to say £50k cars, you still sacrifice exactly the same £12k. Add say an £8k AP and you are paying £20k. That’s 40% of the price of the car, so a far better deal. I appreciate that many people can’t afford an £8k AP, but if you can and want a high end car, this makes far more sense economically than the cheaper cars on the scheme.

Undoubtedly, the best value cars on the scheme, by far, are the high end EVs, but not everyone wants one or would find it a viable solution, so although it’s a PHEV (and I’d prefer a straight petrol), the 330e is a very welcome addition to the scheme, especially as it’s the Touring model and in desirable M-Sport trim.
