    Solid state batteries are not a Toyota thing it’s the next big thing that everyone has been working on. They already exist but scaling them up for industrial scale plus reliability, longevity etc are what’s holding them up.

    Meanwhile chemistry changes has slowly driven energy density energy density up along with charging times etc. There are batteries in existence that fully recharge in seconds the issue is longevity and reliability.

    There are salt water electrolyte batteries out there too
