I dont think we can afford not to change to sustainable forms of energy. Millions die every year from a combination of global warming and pollution from fosil fuels. We are in the middle of the largest spate of wildfires and flooding destruction caused by man made climate change. Clearly there will be costs in the change to sustainable sources of energy but they will pale into insignificance compared to doing nothing and experiencing unfettered climate change.

We in the UK have so far been relatively unaffected by the effects of climate change but there is no doubt that our turn will come. A city in Canada is being evacuated as a result of wildfires and over 40million hectares of forests have been destroyed so we are seeing the cost of man made climate change in real time. Hawaii does not know how many of its citizens are dead because bodies have been literally reduced to dust.

I appreciate that change is difficult to deal with but if we are to survive, as difficult as it is, we have to grasp the nettle and do the right thing for future generations. Dont forget that the new sustainable industries create well paid jobs. The investment in sustainable energy should be viewed as a preemptive way of reducing the deaths caused by global warming, so in my opinion that is money well spent.
