I know it may not be a popular view here, but the changes were made to target more of those on low incomes who live in less well insulated homes, often not by choice and cannot afford to insulate them better. Thus they use more fuel than those living in smaller, thermally efficient homes to keep warm.
Plus, everyone is already receiving £67 per month off every their energy bills until the beginning of April as part of the Government Energy Pricing guarantee initiative. This alone is worth more than the one off £150 warm home payment.
Also, not forgetting that those who are entitled to use the Motability Scheme already received a £150 cost of living payment in 2022 and will receive another in 2023, regardless of income or wealth. Those on income related benefits received even more, including all state pensioners.
With the perilous state of the nations finances post Covid and teetering on the brink of recession, it is simply unaffordable to pay the warm home discount on top to those who formerly qualified.
I therefore will not be signing the petition.
