David, I don’t think the technique calls for motorways, on the contrary it calls for downhill runs with a closed throttle. Plenty of hills up there last time I ventured that far north and if your journeys involve driving over them, I’d be surprised if you’d see a problem in the first place.

It doesn’t even need downhill runs as long as you can be in a position to de-accelerate it will hapen on the staight.

Kia/Hyundai have an engine management software issue, where conditions don’t allow a passive regen the engine management should alter the timing, causing the engine to run lean. A similar situation occured with town folk with diesel’s seeing the DPF clogged all the time. It was to some extent rectified when manufacturers eventually updated their software. Untill enough people complain nowt will be done……

“GPF regeneration can only be performed in “non power” conditions,  meaning that regeneration is normally achieved under deceleration. Deceleration increases the amount of oxygen following through the engine and exhaust system. This in turn raises the temperature of the GPF to around 400c – 700c, igniting the soot contained within the filter.”

In conditions where this is not possible, the vehicles engine management systems alters timing causing it to run lean. This “lean” burn increases oxygen and therefore GPF operating temperatures, allowing a regeneration to occur.
