That’s interesting to hear. Most of what I know about these cars is manufacturer data and expereiences from theose on EV groups (who show just a little bias).
Sometimes that is the problem, we all baised to what we actually know and like/prefer and that effects the angles well look at things from and how we experience them and not all are the same, as we are all different and it’s often what is not mentioned that is also a very important factor/s. I wish the’d tell you how much range you’d get at certain temperatures as i have heard at -15 almost 50% of range is lost and tesla being fined for misleading figures and not mentioning the losses, in south korea i believe it was.
I do feel self charging hybrids or a hybrid generator’s as imo is the case with the new Nissan, are the way forwards for many, doing something is better than nothing.
All home charging I do is via a 3 pin plug. That means any preconditioning is from battery power and not the external power supply. I can impact range if you’re silly with it (I’ve seen people set their precon to stupidly hot over an extended period of time) but warm enough to clear the windows plus about 10 minutes worth only really cost me a few miles. The current car doesn’t have precon at all (poor decision, I know) but can go from cold to clear within 5 minutes even in the recent cold snap (only -3 down here though) that cost me 5 miles but had heat to max, blowers to max, both front seats heating – it was snug to get into.
We don’t really have the ability to charge at home. So a bev imo is not viable right now and i just wondered what effect daily cold trips would have on the battery. obviously it has an effect on an ice car but i do some other driving to charge it up at least once a week and along journey once twice a month.
Do you need to preheat the battery to keep it in tip top condition? and what if you didn’t do so on a regular basis as I do have brain issues and forget to do some stuff like I might do when i get up have coffee and then out the door 10 mins before school gates open, then school starts in 5 mins after gates open, how crazy is that.
I bet i’d forget to do it, till it was programed into my brain or i’d have to set an alarm/reminder.
As from what i have heard if you charge at home you can preheat the battery so it runs at optimum what if you do journies that it never get to that as my ice car never warms up before i’m back home and i doubt the battery pack would. Also on my mild hybrid at first when it’s cold no regen happens at all.
Is great though when i come to a down hill bit it’s time to coast and charge it up. I think alot more could be done in those regards as well, but the powers that be won’t push tech they cannot make money from supplying us the energy to propel it.
