Hello all – long time reader first time poster. Please can anyone advise if they have actually driven the new Sportage with the mild hybrid 1.6 petrol engine? Every Kia dealership only seem to have the HEV as a demonstrator…… ironically the one we can’t order now….. I like many I’m sure were about to order the HEV full (non plug in) but it was removed. I currently have a BMW X1 2.oD (187 bhp) which I have extended for 2 years, before that had the Focus ST TDCI estate (186 bhp)……. just not sure if a 148bhp petrol will feel underpowered? Thought or opinions welcome. Thanks

I drove both ICE and 48V mild hybrid in the Tuscon (same engine) and their was no addition power advantage over The ICE. For extra 1-2mpg the MHEV has over the ICE the additional advanced payment isn’t worth it and unless the spec you want only comes with MHEV engine I would stick to the ICE.

Obviously there will be a difference in power to your current vehicle but a lot of that comes down to how you drive it. I came from a 190hp diesel to the 150hp ICE, lets say the 150hp is adequate for daily driving but 230hp would e nicer. See if you can test drive an ICE Sportage but if not nip over to Hyundai as the will have either an ICE or MHEV Tuscon to test drive. Given they are the same car in different clothing they will be very similar to drive.
