That’s a lot of good info! I’ve heard similar things abiut the Ateca. That’s quite a jump in size from an Ateca to a Golf. But I’m sure you’ll get used to it in a few days/weeks.

Yeah, you’d think so, i did too lol.

The Golf is just 10cm shorter than the Ateca – not that big a jump. Indeed where we’re sitting, the front row, feels actually more spacious than in the Ateca. Including more headroom. It has considerably less boot, indeed – especially being a PHEV with the batteries in the back cutting further into the space, but the only thing that goes in the boot for us (we’re just two people anyway) is my remote controlled cars, as well as shopping. It’s well big enough for shopping, so we’re okay with that.

As it sits, we took the Ateca mainly because we enjoy “carving corners” and at the time, nothing else offered the amount of equipment than it did for the same amount of money. Also we’re quite fond of the looks.

The size really wasn’t an issue, more a hindrance really (the multi story at “our” hospital is really narrow/tiny), nor a reason.

If it came back for the same amount of money, £1700 for the Xcellence Lux (now Xperience Lux), i’d suggest it to people, for that money there’s not much else that drives as good, and is as frugal (relative to the size). At £4000 that they’re asking for it now, i’d get a Sportage.

In the end, we wanted a PHEV, there weren’t many options at the time we ordered. We test drove the 3008 225 and 300, didn’t really like the interior (felt too cramped), Volvo XC40 PHEV, which my wife didn’t like due to the seats and interior (infotainment portrait screen and the tacky crystal gear lever). Left the GTE, after doing an 80 mile test drive at 120mpg (first time ever driving a PHEV), we were sold. We’re still open minded though, since we probably have another year of wait we will test drive the new 308 once available (end of April we’re told). While i personally think the Golf looks better on the outside, the interior does look like a nice place to be. Which in the end, is all (well.. most) that matters.

Got any feedback from your dealer yet?
