Once the cared for person reaches pension age you need to claim Attendance Allowance which has 2 rates. Either rate if accepted will enable the carer to claim carers allowance. I’m currently putting through a claim for my mum as I was caring for her as well as my partner. We’re splitting up so she needs the attendance allowance. The lovely government doesn’t pay carers allowance twice so I’ve had to basically ‘work’ 2 jobs for an amazing £67 per week. Better than nothing I suppose ?
