Whilst awaiting a letter /call from the MoD, in 1963, I got me a job with the NCB at £5.2.0 a week , with a free 6 mile bus trip to work at 5.15 every morning- my first real job, and real wage. It was worth it though as the girl who paid me my wages every Friday, became my wife of 53 years , and is still going strong! My first income was 18 shillings a day picking veg on a farm outside Cardiff, in the school holidays.
Lol @Kezo I long gave up after finishing my apprenticeship and started underground working at my local colliery in 1977. once face trained, I was on £12.20 a shift working Monday to Friday. It sure beat the plastering wages.
